Are Americans the only ones who dub anime into English? It isn't like America is the only prosperous English speaking country, but every dub I've heard uses American voice actors.

On a related note, in the American dub of Azumanga Daioh, they give Osaka-chan some kind of Southern accent. I realize that this is supposed to be the American equivalent of an Osaka accent. I wonder what the British equivalent would be. East Midlands? Glasgow?

im pretty sure osaka is supposed to have a southern accent which, like the OP said, is the american equivalent of an osakan accent.
anyway, i dont even like american dubs, let alone british ones.

most of the english bubs released in England are from American or Canadian companies. that is why you dont see British accent s much. if a British company would do it then there accent would be there and could be cool for those in England.

Just reread my Manga, and they act like she's from New York.

New York isn't southern either, that's the point. Floridians don't sound like they're from Kentucky.

Micky D's is a stereotype for, you guessed it, New York.

ah yes, when i read it somehow the manga differs from the anime, but i think southern accent fitted her more? ah thats just me. osakan accent =/= new york accent in my opinion.

Maybe it's because I'm from Central Florida, but I'm used to the New York accents so it doesn't come off as odd for her to sound like a New Yorker.

well you have to have dubs, or half the world wouldn’t even know what animes would be...remember most people are too lazy to read subtitles lol
The only reason I can think of for American vocalists to dub most anime is because of American influence over Japan since the nuking off ww2. Most companies colab with American as they were the main occupying force years ago and and have embedded a closer connection to Japan over time, embedded a part of their culture so to speak...unlike England. Hence why Japanese learn English from the yanks and misspell words like color instead of colour (dont moan about that one the word colour was invent before America exsited) and use the same schooling system as America (eg: highschools)
thats why anyways.
as for me im no racsite scummer red neck ,so i like dubs in any language i understand and subs (depends on the anime and dub quality)...as there is nothing more sad than a person who cant bounce between formats and branch outside of their little enclosed world lol
