im afraid they arent though. for example, there are calls for an arms embargo against zimbabwe because china tried to send a big shipment of arms to Mugabe after he lost the election and was witholding the election results while torturing those who voted against him.

i dont think chinese people are the issue though, its a governmental thing.

could ppl please get over the whole..."dog eating thing"

I could not agree more. I don't like it at all, but I don't get hung up on it. If cows and pigs were pets, people would find eating it just as disgusting, It's just that people way, way back then chose not to think of them this way, so it seems less disgusting to most people in the world to eat beef and pork than to eat dogs.

food is food. man will eat anything to survive.

Go to China AND Taiwan quite often (put it that way so as not to offend anyone hopefully). Honestly they are two different countries, but it really wouldn't do anything but benefit both sides if Taiwan was willing to identify itself as a part of China. I mean, just look at the way Hong Kong turned out. They're practically independent of China as far as governing goes, and I'm sure the same courtesy would be extended to Taiwan. 一國兩制 if you know what I mean. :]

Well, actually many HKers I know are extremely critical of the communist regime. They see that their lives were better as a British colony rather than as a CCP city. If Taiwan was to become a part of China, that would only benefit China, as China has absolutely nothing to offer to Taiwan other than cheap workers for factories, while Taiwan's got plenty to offer to China. Taiwanese and Chinese have completely different ways in dealing with many issues, so really, there is as much difference between Taiwan and China as there is between England and the United States. Taiwan's getting along just fine. Oh wow, the economy in Taiwan sucks, no it doesn't. Even though Taiwan's not doing as well as when it was in the "Taiwan miracle" stage, it's still pretty decent in comparison with the rest of the nations. It's still ranked above the majority of the world in terms of per capita GDP, and the quality of life in Taiwan is ahead of many countries in Europe such as France and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the technology sector in Taiwan is only behind like Japan and the United States and maybe South Korea, and that's cuz Taiwan doesn't get enough funding for research in that area, but Taiwan's still one of the top in the world when it comes to technological advancements. Taiwan doesn't need China to survive. And no, I'm not Chinese. I'm a full-blooded Taiwanese.

I'll admit that Taiwan's economy is indeed a great deal better off than most countries in the world, but with China's vastly growing economy, it would be in both parties' interests to become one. Not only that, a majority of the world still recognizes China and China only. Taiwan's increased stubbornness doesn't really yield anything much at all, and I'm sure the markets of both China and Taiwan would still have the same relationship they have now--almost separate. Honestly, it's just a world recognition sort of issue and doesn't have much meaning at all.
(I know that Taiwan's economy is also estimated to increase drastically within the next three years due to new policies and stuff, but seriously, it's a win-win situation.)

Did you know that China's govt is in charge of all media productions so that they may say only what the govt thinks is right?
Did you know that China has human rights issues?
Did you know that in China, the family of prisoners who are going to be executed (shot), would have to pay for the bullet the person was shot with?
Did you know that China blamed the Tibetan riots on the religious leader, The Dalai Lama calling him a snake, and other nasty names?
Did you know that SARS originated from China, and the govt tried to hide it from the world?
What about China and the olympics? Is everything really running smoothly, or are they "shooting themselves in the foot" (quoted in Maclean's Magazine)?

These may be the negative facts about Communist China, but the facts listed, is facts that most people would have never heard of. (sorry if I had offended anyone, I am just stating the truth).

Actually there are many people (especially outsiders that aren't chinese or oriental) that don't know about such things. They only thought that China was a great place to shop for cheap things. Only after the news of the Beijing Olympics was announced, did people actually started observing the style the communist govt in China.

China is just making up for the times lost of not modernizing itself. Personally, I think China, 5 years or more from now would be the world's superpower. It's obvious they have this tight schedule to get things done and over with, like I said, making up for the time they lost. They're the fastest industrializing country in the world. It was only about 1940's that they really started to modernize their country and culture, and to change age-old traditions and ruling. Just more than a half century ago, and look at them now... Although, their means of production and the way they extort labor is a bit... extreme (?). I think when everything has reached a plateau, the government would start to think more of its people. I know for a fact that China has the oldest people and upholds continuous 'ancient' civilizations dating 6 millennia ago. (T.T") personally, Chinese history is one of the most interesting and fascinating pieces of world history. I mean, almost everything we use were from the Chinese people. Most of the food we eat were inspired by Chinese food. The ideas we have especially in military terms (The Art of War bu Sun Tzu)....China is just wow. Great philosophies, Confucianism, enough said.
Pollution, extortion, violence, and poverty, those are all stages. It will just take one great leader with loyal supporters to change all those. This applies to any other nation as well. U.S.A wouldn't be like this, if it wasn't for China granting their production. Practically almost everything comes from China. (T.T")

That's communism for you. (T.T") Well before these stuff happened, China was under Maoism-Communism, a much better type of communism. Times are changing, they need to do these things for their nation to fully industrialize/modernize. Honestly, most Industrialized countries have shares of "evil" doings, they were just better at keeping it low. Seriously. The Beijing Olympics, that's highly a political issue that involves great amounts of money, as in, MASSIVE amounts of money. It's about Sudan's ties with China, and how China is supporting "terrorist" acts in Sudan, it's not just about Tibet. Tibet needs China, no matter how unequal the Chinese government's treatment are for them.
