I agree with the sentiments of most of the people (i.e. bad plot, over-drawn out fillers, really bad animation, no character development etc)

But I would also add that bad dialog can mess up some anime a bit (like when characters ramble to much).
The bad (awkward) dialog is especially the case with dubbed shows (thus I mostly watch subbed) because there are certain nuances in Japanese that just sound out of place when directly translated into English (and other languages). Such as when in some dubs they directly translate "Sou desu ne" into "is that so" instead of a more conventionalized english "umm/hmm/let's see".
So you ended up getting:
"Let's go to the movies today?"
"Is that so? [followed by a pause that often accompanies sou desu ne]... truth is I have to study for a test tommorow so I can't."

And you're left like "uhh that sounded a bit awkward, but okay..." And sometimes it can get quite annoying such naruto's "dattebayo" becoming "believe it" after almost every sentence: "I want to eat some ramen...believe it!"

In my opinion, Dattebayo was actually worse than Believe It, because he never stopped saying that stupid phrase.

Well in the dub the "believe it" sounds stupid but it wasn't really every sentence like the suffix dattebayo. xD (I think it was only when he was hyped up, only watched a few episodes of the dub o.o) ! I think it would be like "I think I'm going to die of hunger -ttebayo" but not really "I think I'm going to die of hunger -BELIEVE IT!"

Interesting. For me I was actually able to phase out paying attention to the "dattebayo" more than I could phase out "believe it" especially since (having English as my 1st language and Japanese as the 3rd) the latter just stands out more.

- bad story
- lacking Character development
- annoying main characters.
- use of stock footage over and over
- more then 1 flash back episode retelling the story per 25 episodes
- overly long shows with no clean outline on how the progress the story
- refusing to allow main supporting characters die
- too many bright colors
