I rather watch anime, but manga is very good. I usually only read if I have the actual book since I don't really like the fan translations. If it was up to me, I would read in japanese, but I can't read japanese!

That answers your question right there. The anime adaptation has a nasty habit of either ending before the manga actually ends, or coming up with loads of filler. Not to mention the anime adaptation is always less violent. No one can say the Berserk anime is as violent as the manga. The art is usually better, too.

fairy tail seems to be a rare exception. 119 episodes, and only nine are filler.

I personally prefer manga to anime; I like reading more than watching, because I can control the pace of it. If I'm on the edge of my seat and can't wait to see what happens next, I can read faster, or if I want dramatic suspense or to really take in beautiful art, I can read slower. Plus... no filler. =P

That said, I watch a lot more anime, simply because it's cheaper. I can get a subscription here on Crunchy or other legal video sites and watch 100+ different series for $8 a month, or I can spend that $8 on one manga volume of one series. Plus, manga takes up a lot of room. XD

Sometimes Manga captures a scene far better than the anime of the same series dose.

Take Hikaru no Go for example. Early in the series there is this moment where Hikaru is just enjoying himself placing stones on the board. He describes it like he is creating the universe.

The Impact of that image in the Manga was breathtaking

The same scene plays out in the anime but the impact of it isn't nearly so powerful. It's still a good scene but it doesn't get the message across nearly as well as the still image from the manga

Although I generally watch anime more then reading manga, I believe manga's popularity lies in the wide variety of genre that people can read, you can prettty much guarantee that if your a fan of something there is a manga for you (and compared to US comics, there are more targeted at girls/women - so to reiterate, there is something in manga for everybody)

Well, it may due with the fact that a lot of anime's suck. And, you can read a full manga in less then 10 minutes and learn if it sucks but with a anime.. man, you got to sit there and watch it.

When naruto started to suck, i gave up on it. When i went back to, i went back to the manga only because.. the manga's are usually much better!

Thats the other thing that's true I guess, manga's don't usually have fillers.

Yup. Its kind of annoying to be dedicated to an anime to suddenly find out that for a couple months, all we're going to be seeing is stuff not related to the real story. With Bleach, it was overly annoying.

Manga is both singular and plural, so it can't be used as manga's. The same with anime, it is both singular and plural, so it can't be used as anime's either.

Ex.: I have finished watching 3 anime this month and have quite enjoyed them. I used to read 5 manga series at once.
This is how they are to be used, so please use them correctly.

Yeah, I know that now. Thanks.

Lots of reasons! It's not as censored, the art is usually better, you can control the pace of reading, portable, etc.

One big reason is the amount of resources that goes into an anime, they only choose the most popular/mainstream stuff to adapt, which is not always the best stuff.

I prefer manga, but I do like to see really well done anime, the actors can be really good, and the music, etc. There are some really amazing animators as well. Of course, it's easier and less expensive to make a really amazing manga than an amazing anime, so I find that the proportion of good manga is way higher. A poorly executed element in an anime, such as a sluggishly animated fight scene or bad acting will ruin an anime for me.

Fact:
90%-95% of the time, manga will have a better/longer story line than its anime counter part.

I don't bother with manga, I know we wouldn't have anime without it initially, usually, but I can't see someone bleeding or feel the emotion of a character properly through text alone.

Well my fellow American, Manga is consider a pile of crap here in the great multi cultural country.

Many art professors and artist here hate Anime and Manga, However Manga is love and part of the Japanese culture.

I prefer manga because a lot of animes never even finish. Most anime end in the middle or in the very beginning of the series (EX. History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi) while the manga continues the story.

It's a matter of personal preference. Not all anime is adapted from a manga, some animes are even adapted into mangas themselves.
