It is like how the 'Lord of the Rings" book (yeah the one that you can kill a Elephant with) is better than the movies. The amount of details conveyed in manga and books are usually better than the video version of the story because video usually has to condense things and they usually censor material because people flip out.

manga isn't really that popular, just look at the U.S sales, but if your asking why people read it i would say because of how easy it is, just take One Piece for example, for me it takes about 20 minutes to read a volume if i get into it enough, so in the time it takes you to finish an episode you could've already finished about 9 chapters, also it's easier to pick up instead of american comics because you don't have to worry about continuity or multiverses(although i still enjoy american comics)

3. The artwork can be better in manga than the anime
4. The manga is often much better than the anime, much like a book being better than it's movie
5. Some people just prefer comic books

People usually say ''There are no stupid questions'' .. But I'll have to say that's a stupid question..
99% of the time mangas are better than their anime counterparts cause so much can go wrong with animes (Animation, Voice actors, art, CHARACTERS.).. While the manga is basic, it also is 100% the real deal, while animes tend to changes things up sometimes.

For me...because it's portable.
I mean, there's that inherent shame of reading it in public, but once you get over that you can get your fix anywhere!

Wouldn't you love to see what happens before the anime and if you love comics you gotta love manga  Manga is waaaaay better than a book and it takes hard work to draw and think of stories for them |

Manga is so popular b/c it is used as a basis to make many animes, their are many mangas that have interesting stories which is not adapted into anime
