Adventure:

Phoenix Wright (any game in the series, fairly easy to jump into) - Text/graphical adventure game. Excellent dialogue/writing. Interesting storylines

Hotel Dusk - Text/Graphical adventure game. Slightly harder. Compelling storyline and interesting graphical style.

For Final Fantasy, it depends on what systems you own. Since you have a DS, you should look for Final Fantasy VI, which was released on the GBA awhile back. It works in a regular DS.
If you can't find it, Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV are also good.

If you have a PS2 you could look into getting Final Fantasy 7, 8, or 9 which came out on PS1; 10, or 12. There is very little connecting each game with only general themes being carried between titles.

So I'm looking for a good JRPG for the Xbox 360. something similar to Final Fantasy or the Tales of series. I've played all of my current games so much and I'm looking for a game with a nice story, good character development, and a fun battle system. I've tried "Infinite Undiscovery" but it just didn't catch me as much as I would have liked. The story had bad development and the battle system was sluggish. Also, I am considering Tales of Vesperia, but I'd like to get other opinions first. Anyway, if anyone knows of a good JRPG for the Xbox 360 please let me know. Normally I'd just go out and buy some to try out, but I'm a bit poor as of late, so I'd like to get some opinions before I commit to something.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check them out. I don't know, Infinite Undiscovery was just...blah...to me. I wasn't a fan of the game's protagonist, I hated the English acting, and the story didn't have very good development.
I'm highly anticipating the entire Fabula Nova Crystallis collection, not just FFXIII, though I'd take any of them right now.

There's some problems here.

The games you listed above never came out on PS3 and Dissidia Final Fantasy hasn't been released outside of Japan.

To anyone looking for rpg's for the ps2/ps3 check out the Shin Megami Tensei Series, SMT Persona 4 is currently my favorite game
