Sure, at first he was an ass to Kotoko, but over the time he's gotten soft. I'm pretty sure there are some guys/boyfriends/and even husbands like Irie in real life. xD Guys with a character similar to Irie should be happy and glad that there are women like Kotoko who will still chase after him. ^o^ His character and attitude towards Kotoko is fine as it is.

But that's the coolness of the story right? Kotoko is showy while Naoki is not expressive... That's what gives the story spice... I love Naoki the way he is...

As far as I can recall, Itazura na Kiss manga was like the first where the male is portrayed as an arrogant jerk and then slowly becomes nicer because of the try-hard girl. Every time I read Shojo now, I can't help but see it as Itazura na Kiss all over again but with different names and faces.

I find that the change from him being a total ass to being her best friend happened way too soon to be believable. Other than that, I think the story was written wonderfully.
