I like dubs better than subs. so far the only anime ive seen where i didnt like the dubed version is one piece. 4kids made it for kids, thats their job, they made it for kids, not anime fans. and one piece is cool and everything, but i got annoyed when the crew went across deserts and through snow storms, i want to see a show about pirates and pirates dont roll like that. but besides one piece i like dubs.

Yu Yu Hakusho was the last anime I could stand to watch dubbed. After I started watching it in Japanese, I started to catch on to the differences, and after I started *really* watching lots of subbed anime, I really couldn't stand watching dubs. Even when the voice actors are good actors (like Patrick Stewart in Nausicaa), I still can't stand watching a show or movie that was obviously meant to be in another language in English (or any other "foreign" language). And it's not just anime, or Japanese stuff. The other day, I caught Hero on TV, and I thought, "cool, it's been a while, I'd like to see it again." I was shocked to see it dubbed in English! Really badly, too. After a minute, I had to change the channel, it was too painful to watch.
I can understand that little kids can't read subtitles very well, and that dubbing is often done to make the watcher's job easier, but I really think that to enjoy a movie/series it needs to be watched in its original language... unless you just want to poke fun at the voices.
Oh, and BTW, n0odle, Kenshin's Japanese seiyuu *was* a girl. There are a lot of female seiyuu who play boys/men. For example, Naruto's seiyuu, both in Japan and America, are women. Another example is One Piece's Luffy. ^_^

Subs suck. Not because I mind watching them. I turn on subtitles on english shows anyway and read them. I don't like them because japanese voice actors are terrible. I cannot take a show seriously when a sad moment sounds angry. Or when a happy moment sounds angry. Or when an angry moment still sounds angry. Or when a weird moment occasionally sounds sad when it shouldn't and the moment that is supposed to be sad still doesn't sound sad.

Maybe a lot is lost in translation but I translate a lot more from the emotions conveyed in the voices than in the words themselves. Maybe it's a subtlety lost on me but japanese voice actors don't sound anything but mad. Maybe it's not a good job there..... ^.^

so ur saying the ORIGINALs are bad? the seiyuus are hand picked to portray each individual character, so us viewers can see their personallities. Japanese voice actors / actresses acutally try hard, use unique voices to fit their characters, enjoy their work, and are enthusiastic to voicing their characters.

DUBS = have randomly picked ppl voice characters. They have no enthusiasm, no uniquness and they are just bland. THE ONLY voice actor I have heard that was even decent was the guy who voiced Inu yasha ( dunno the guy's name ) and Sesshomaru ( dont know his name either )

You can say that as much as you want but they still don't sound like good voice actors. I mean I would rather have someone randomly picked, who doesn't even get all of their lines right but can convey DIFFERENT emotions when speaking. Like I said the emotional content contains a lot more than the words for me. As I said. Maybe I just miss it but it doesn't matter how perfectly they can fit their character to the voice if they cannot fit the emotions to the voice.

Although I admit I still watch a bunch of subbed anime. And being hand picked doesn't mean anything to me. BTW I don't remember sesshomaru but inuyasha's voice actor was not great. Still better than any japanese voice actor I have heard.

is it me or is it that sometimes the japanese voices are actually worse than the english voices? this doesn't happen alot, but it does happen. for example, i think the kare kano english voice acting fits the characters more than the japanese (esp the main guy's voice).

The originals are perfect, and if you've acutally seen / been to a studio then you would truly know.

Like i said before, the original voice actors convey emotion, i dunno where you get this stuff about them being dull and not doing anything at all, its just DUB voice actors that dont do much.

I cant believe you'd have some randomly picked person over a original though, thats just F**ked up

Some dubs are alright though there are bad ones out there. I don't recall any bad subs. If there was anything more irritating than bad dubs, they're name changes and plot butcherers like what KidsWB did to CCS.
