What seasonings do your family use? Any favorite? Do your family use ajinomoto? (What do you think of it?) Moreover this is a general thread on seasonings so anything on it can be discussed and posted here.

Aji-no-moto is monosodium glutamate (MSG). When I was a kid, my mom used it (actually an American brand, Accent-- do they still make this anymore? I can't recall the last time I've seen this in a grocery store...) when cooking. Somewhere along the way, she stopped-- probably to reduce sodium intake more than anything else. MSG doesn't cause cancer. No one intends for you (or your cat) to eat a whole package at a time, and practically anything consumed in excess can prove to be toxic. Glutamate (glutamic acid) is an amino acid, and a component of normal proteins in your body and all sorts of other living things, both plants and animals. Nowadays, in my own house, I don't use it, and only rarely add salt (sodium chloride) to anything-- there's already enough salt in my normal diet, generally. Instead, I use all sorts of spices (some 20+ sorts in my cabinet--pepper, oregano, basil, sage, thyme, anise seed, fennel seed, cinnamon, sansho, saffron, za'atar, Madras curry etc....), depending on my mood or what the recipe requires.

I bought a bottle of it 3 years ago, and have only used it a few times. My family also uses furikake... mmmmm... aji nori is the best.

My mom still uses this stuff, but more "sparingly" I guess. I'll use it once in a blue moon. Not sure what's fact/fiction about the health ramifications though... Any ideas???

My family uses poison. We keep trying to assassinate each other because of a game my great grandpa set for his inheritance roughly 6 years before I was born.
