What is your favorite sonic game, and what is your opinion on the newest one for the ps3/360?
Posted 4/9/07
my favorite is the first sonic adventure on the dreamcast, i used to play that game so much!
i really disliked the newest one and i will tell you why. compared to the other 3d ones, the newest one is painfully slow unless you are on a speed pad or a bumper.
playing as shadow is terrible and he is very slow compared to his appearances in the adventure games. the loading times are terrible and take much longer than they should, even the dreamcast games had fast quick loading screens. i bought a ps3 just to play this game and i was very dissapointed. also, in some sonic stages, you dont just play as sonic. for example, in the first area you play as sonic and then half way through, it switches to tails. dont get me wrong, i loved playing as the other characters in sonic adventure, but it slows the game down even more. in sonic levels, it should just be sonic, let tails and knuckles have their own levels. with swiching characters and long loading times, the thrill of doing speed runs just isnt in this game like it was in the others. like in crisis city, there are multiple loading screens within the level and take 10-13seconds each. and i hate those speed sequences. the only parts of the game that are pretty fast is when sonic runs for you and you can only move left and right. this is the worst idea ever because if something hits you, you dont stop, the screen is still moving forward. usually, if you jump, you will die because oyu cant control the direction you are jumping in. SEGA even admitted that the game quality has suffered because they couldnt polish it enough in time to release it for christmas on the 360 and then release it for ps3 soon after. well, it is their fault for doing it like that. i knew the game was coming out too soon, it should have been delayed until next christmas. lately i started sonic heroes again and after playing the newest peice of crap on the ps3, sonic heroes is a breath of fresh air, the characters move smoother and it isnt so twichy and glitchy. sonic for ps3 was a failed opportunity and even if you enjoy the game, you cant deny that it could have been much better and a lot more polished. the last thing i will say is, play tails the the newest sonic game, see how slow and clunky he is, and then play sonic adventure. you will se a big difference in quality and it is pathetic that a game release in 1999 is more polished than a new game in 2006/07. not only tails, but every character is much better to control in the older games than the new one. compare them side by side and you will see what i mean!

uuhh..was that double post really necessary?

Anyways...I like Sonic games, the good old classic ones for the Sega Gamegear which I still have :D

And I also like the new one for the DS, never really played any other Sonic related games other than the side-scrollers

I'm one of the most long winded people on this board, but good god man, break it up, use paragraphs. The enter key is your friend.

That being said, I've never been a big sonic fan. I never really thought they gave you enough time to react to your environment. It really seemed to be about memorizing levels more than anything else to me, but I'm just familiar with the Genesis games. I think I only played one of the newer ones and decided it really wasn't worth my time.

I enjoyed sonic heroes, but I loved the classics. I'd give it to Sonic 2 on the Mega drive 2 (japanese name for the genesis)

I used to really enjoy playing Sonic adventure 2 on dreamcast and the old ones on megadrive.

I played the demo of the new Sonic on the xbox 360 and thought it was quite good but i read some reviews and apparantly its rubbish. I dont like playing the other characters.

well, yea, its long winded, so?
i wanted to make a point because i was extremely mad that i bought a ps3 with that game and it was terrible. i wanted to warn people that the game really is as bas as everyone is saying.

You missed the point. You just posted a wall of text. No paragraphs at all. If you're going to post a lot of information, break it up so it's easier to read.

i didnt think sonic for the wii was too bad but it was weird how you had to level sonic up just to move faster and to make him move less sluggish. playing the levels by themselves were fun but doing the missions were getting old and just werent much fun

Sonic Heroes was good because you could use all the characters on teams. I also really enjoyed the final battle against Metal Sonic or Metal Overlord as he was called. I was hoping that they would have super forms for Tails and Knuckles too though.

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were great! I liked raising the little chao(s), and making him/her win races and fight, that was a lot of fun. And the final battle with Sonic and Shadow working together was cool! CHAOS CONTROL.

Speaking of Shadow, I'm pretty sure Shadow the Hedgehog counts as a Sonic game........ The game itself wasn't that bad but why did they have him driving cars and motorcycles when he and Sonic can move at far greater speeds. That's really the only problem I had with that one and how they didn't really improve anything at all in it. It was cool how he would go berserk and destroy everything in his path when you charged up the bar though.

I haven't played the one for PS3/360 because I don't have it, and even if I did I wouldn't be able to play it because I don't have a 360 or a PS3. The one for the Wii I tried and it was enjoyable somewhat but nothing really amazing about it, in fact it was more annoying than it was anything else.

And of course I've played the ones for Sega Genesis. Sonic 2 was the first Sonic game I ever played when I was 5 years old. I remember when I first beat it, I was so happy.
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic and Knuckles( It was fun how you could put Sonic 1-3 in the cartridge and play with Knuckles in those games.)
Oh and Sonic 3-D Blast!! That was really fun and the first 3-D sonic game I think too. But it didn't work with the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge. I tried over and over thinking something was wrong with my Sega. During which I discovered that you can hit you sega genesis with the sonic games in them and you'll suddenly have control of Super Sonic, not with 3-D blast though.
