That depends on what program you have. By default, Windows XP and 2000 and up already have the capabilities stored in the computer. If you have a Mac, I may be of some help for that.

It should have, but we'll see after you follow the instructions:

Click on Start (the one with the Windows flag) > Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Regional Language Options > Keyboards and Languages tab > Change keyboards > Add... > scroll for Japanese > Keyboard > Microsoft IME > OK > Apply

A language bar should appear in your task bar, but it will say "EN". Right-click and choose "Restore the Language bar" so you can see what it is. It'll say "EN English (United States)". Click on it and go to "JP Japanese (Japan)". It will extend and give you: Microsoft IME, A Input Mode, Conversion Mode, IME Pad, Tools

To write in Japanese, click on Input Mode and choose either Hiragana or Katakana. To go back to typing in English, you can either choose Half-width Alphanumeric or return to EN English (United States)

Let me know how it goes =)

lol, iie

Just so you know, when you type, some words will automatically change to Kanji after you write a sentence. However, sometimes those Kanjis aren't the right ones and mean something else, so be careful. If you know the Kanji but don't have it coming out, go to
IME Pad. You can draw the Kanji with your mouse, or search through the radicals and find the right one. Don't use the Characater List (the one with the magnifying glass) because that doesn't really have anything to help you with your search.

and what is :Bias for NAmes, Bias for speech, No conversation, General?

thanks heaps!

Full-width Alphanumeric is like so as opposed to Half-width Alphanumeric. Full-width means wider space (note the "width" in the name, lol) and Half-width is narrower between the characters. Katakana will look like this:

Full-width Katakana: ワタシ
Half-width Katana: ワタシ

As for the Conversion Mode, I have yet to tweak and find out what that is about, so I don't really know, haha. Sorry. I don't think it's really needed for now though, as all that we need for writing is already provided with Input Mode
