Unlocking the iPhone and its benefits -- ?
Posted 10/1/08
For the past two days, I've been researching the benefits and downplays of grabbing myself a 3G iPhone and with that, I stumbled upon various tutorials on how to unlock the iPhone for your own personal tweakings.

Benefits of unlocking iPhone and inserting a TMobile card:
Comparing service rates, TMobile offers 600 min. and unlim. nights/weekends for a mere $39.99/month and you most certainly can connect to the internet through a TZone or your home WIFI network.
ATT rates available for the iPhone begin at $69.99 (450 min. 5000 night/weekend) but includes web browsing, email, etc.

Downside of unlocking iPhone and inserting a TMobile card:
As far as being on the web goes, you're severely limited to what network you have access to and I've been moving around quite a bit lately so that would be no bueno.

I've also read into various articles from different techblogs (most certainly not from Apple itself since that would be incredibly biased) and apart from being technologically advanced, the iPhone is highly restricted and limited to soft. applications that are created by the company itself. But I also considered what I would be using it for, which is basically the viewing and sending of large documentaries (which means Microsoft apps is a must along with Adobe -- which isn't even out yet) and web browsing/video streaming (I hear legal infringements are a hassle in this area).

Basically, I just want a second, third, fourth, fifth ... opinion as to whether or not I should go for the iPhone or look for an equally promising smartphone/PDA. There have been rumors circling around about Google coming out with their own GooPhone -- http://thedailyfuzz.com/is-the-world-ready-for-the-goophone/109 -- of course, nothing is set into stone with the actual details, however, it's rather obvious that Google intends to break into the cell phone market themselves.

Baaaah -- outside opinions/profound insights pl0x!!

Honestly, I haven't stumbled across that specific piece of information, however, I can righteously assume that yes -- the underhand unlocking of the iPhone would most definately affect the warranty due to the fact that the iPhone is suppose to be exclusive to ATT. So if you decide to make it compatible with various interchanging SIM (which is quite a waste if you ask me because either way -- you'll still have to pay for both) that would nullify the warranty given from Apple, since they will sure as hell check registration.

Almost positive it voids the warranty, yes.
