Damages.

Imagine this. You're frying your hair at intense heat in order to quickly dry it. Yum, crispy damaged hair. ^__^

Makes you wonder what they invented heat protectant hair sprays for. ;DDD

Hm... well, I'd imagine that if you put your hair under intense heat for too long or too frequently, it can damage your hair. Hair drying is good for volume, styling and making your hair straight, but don't do it too much because you can definitely damage your hair.

^ Your hair probably feels softer since blowdrying would smooth it out. Smooth hair = softer hair (at least thats how it feels to me).

Anyhow, blowdrying, as well as any sort of heat styling, is damaging to hair.

The cool air itself shouldn't cause any damage to your hair. Infact, 'coldness' helps to close up the cuticles of your hair. But since the blowdryer does whip your hair around, your hair is constantly rubbing against itself, which ultimately does cause some damage to your hair.

Are you using a brush when blowdrying?
And do you direct the heat in the direction that your hair cuticles lie?
Blowdrying should actually help eliminate frizz...
