I think "controlling" is the wrong word to use. Let's try "strict". =D

hm. religion is a touchy subject isn't it. haha. i'm a christian (methodist in singapore) i don't really feel is controlling or even strict for that matter. i think what's really important isn't about what they say, but what you do about it. like in my church, they will advise...but just because i have a non-chirstian boyfriend...doesn't mean they're going to make me an outcast or smth. although they will say that i should convert him, but teacher says it's fine, but it might be difficult. i see the point. honestly we can't all be perfect can we? the only one who can do that is god. so, as human beings we can make mistakes and all, but i think a religion is smth that you firstly believe in, and that it should be something that comforts you, rather than cause more trouble. i mean, yes you may be picked on because of your faith, that is understandable, but overall, in your times of need you can and will come back to it.

just my opinion.

one more thing, i thing now, a lot of people take up religion as a source of meditation or something, and for them, what's impt is convenience, but i feel that that isn't the way it should be.

I just know that all they want is more menbers for each church. I think they want people to have more kids just to gain more people.

As a religion studies major in university i have to say religion was ment to be controoling. a comin thread you will see through every religion that you encounter is the ideas and rules for propper engagment and treatment. that is one of the reasons why comunisim banned religion. it gave somthing other than the goverment influence over the people. religion is ment to give gidance and you cant have gidance without rules and you cant have rules with out a certail levil of controol and which religions establish through peoples blind belife in there teachings. Eg: the treat of hell or pugatory for punishment for sins.

My bad SeraphAlford I wasn't refereeing to you; but, the person above you. also about the burial thing, you would believe in the burial thing because it signifies that Jesus actually died.

Oh, I see. :p, srry, my fault then!

Anywho, the burial thing makes sense but I don't think you have to believe in it to go to heaven. I think, this is just my religious view, you only have to believe that Jesus died an rose again for your sins.

Jesus was the son of God, the son of man. Yes, I believe he died, and after 3 days he rose from the dead.

For christians, this is the core of our beliefs

u know wha ti find REAL funny bout all this i the fact that all we got to go on is a book that someone wrote years ago. No one form the future has seen jesus so how can u say he is the son of god. Hell their are records of Jesus being around.

If i were to tell somone that their was a blue bear doing the can can in the street with a giraffe a wolf and a lion u would belive me yet billions of people belive in a god where their is no real imperical evidence.

Also what annoys me is the press with the film passion of the christ. Lets say i maye a 2/3 hour film of a guy getting tourtured it would be shocking and people couldnt accept it it would be banned ect. But f its about jesus is passionate compelling and insipiring why is that so?

But to the question is religoin controlling and that answer is yes and no. Yes because by following a religion your being forced into a belif of the savoir and one god. Though no as u have a choice if you want to follow a religion or not.

Jesus could die because despite being God he also was a sinless human. I don't think Jesus could die unless he literally gave up his spirit. also he even mentions while being on the cross. that all the things he was supposed to fulfill before he died he fulfilled. after pretty much saying something like that he told God the father this: "unto you I relinquish my Spirit" after that Jesus dies. To answer your question digs. yes I mean tomb. Jesus being Buried just confirms that he Died.

very good point Actraiser.

It's all about faith JoSH. faith -believing that something happened or is true despite not being there to actually confirm it. this is how both Religion and History are alike.

I don't think religion is too controlling, but the most ppl who practice religion can be *coughs* did anyone see jesus camp...most of them just be making sh$t up, to fit what they think is right or not, like most of the s they say are a sin wasnt even around during the biblical days...

Hmm wah super deep, im not gonna go into it too much but, my opinion is
just like when you are a citizen or employee, you have a bunch of rules to subscribe to.
If you dont want to, feel free to leave, or stay. (Usually at the work place you go into cold-storage).
Alternatively you can start your own company (religion), question is whether people will agree with you or you will just be a one man show till you die.

well depends on which religion, just like the previous post there are certain rules to abide by but then there are lifestyles you have to follow to reach the prize for being faithful at the end. some religions arent as strict as others, for example, Hinduism isn't so strict, but Islam on the other hand is. but the most strict religion of them all has to be Scientology.

You could just be an atheist. An atheist is a person who does not believe in god or gods.
