She's not really popular here at all. If you named a movie she was in, people would probably recollect her, but not well. She sort of flies under the radar here in the States. Like one poster already said, unless she's in an upcoming film, we don't hear much of anythihng about her. When it comes to Asian actresses in the States, Lucy Liu really gets more of the attention, though she doesn't even get that much either anymore.

i dont think thats true, maybe in your town shes not that heard of considering shes on billboards, magazine and movies in the states when i was in the states she was very popular! i think the difference between her and lucy lui is that lucy lui has played more american type roles so even though she is asian everyone sees her as a typical american even when she did that film shanghai nights (i think that was what it was called) with jackie chan she played a chinese emporers daughter and the role didnt suit her because it didnt seem authentic and the film was not that successful. Thats why she sticks to the american slapstick films such as charlies angels and other gurlie comedies

No, she's really not that popular. Anyone can be on a billboard and in magazines and movies. It doesn't mean you're popular. That's how a lot of people break into the industry. She really isn't that well known here in the States overall.

well like i said when i was in the states she was very popular and i travelled around when i was there. i think its unfair for you to say overall in the states shes unknown because how would you know that? shall we just say in certain places shes popular and others shes not?

Don't know what part of America most of you are from, and Gong Li may be the most accomplished and longest revered actress, but Zhang Ziyi is easily the most famous asian actress in the United States. There is not one name other than hers, Jackie Chans's, Michelle Yeoh's, Lucy Liu, and the late Bruce Lee that is known by a significant percentage of the population. "Crouching Tiger" and Memoirs of a Geisha both did pretty good business here, and you couldn't help but notice her in either film as she was top billed in both. Even if she couldn't act a lick, her beauty is more than enough to attract the attention of nearly the entire male population of any country. Those in denial about her popularity are your typical people who look at the glass being half empty. I don't think that this woman has ever had to open her own door or buy her own meal in her life. She becomes instantly famous the first time anyone sees her.

But I have a question, was she born in china ? and where was lucy liu born ?

I'm guessing you don't live in the west? (america)
from what i have seen, (i've lived in japan, china, and america) I think she's one of the most famous asian actresses in the world...I've seen her on japanese, american, and of course chinese tv and magazines.
but i guess she's not as popular in asia because she is hollywood based.

btw, i'm curious, where are you from?

im from california o_o i live in the west :O
