Have you ever had a dream where you are concious that you are dreaming and you try to wake up but couldn't? It's like someone is suffocating you and you can't get up, feeling like you're trapped half asleep? In the Philippines, it's called a bangungot. Quoted from Wikipedia: "While experiencing this, the person is aware that he is dreaming but feels like there is something that stops him from moving and awaking." its common for people fromEast and Southeast Asian countries.
if you are still confused on what it is or would like to learn more about it, please visit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangungot

I would say that i am a "survivor" of bangungot. actually i've been having it numerous times. i am not kidding. sometimes I would have 2 to 3 in a row (like i would wake up from one, fall asleep again then having another one and waking up again). the most ive had in a row was 5. no joke. it was traumatizing. i was so scared. after that i would go sleep next to my sister.
in some of my bangungots, i would see a Sadako look-alike, with the long black hair and white dress but more real and terrifying. whenever i see her i would hear this scary screaming, like blood-curdling screams that would go on and on. other bangungots is when i could actually see my room, like i had my eyes half-open but there would be this dark entity lurking in the corner and coming towards me and at the same time im being suffocated. yep bangungots immoblize me. when i get one i wiggle my toes or just fight my way out of it (which is a pretty scary struggle, u have no idea).
but i also noticed how it always happen when i sleep facing up (which is a habit of mines). so i start sleeping sideways when i get one (or if i felt brave enough and risk having another one, i would remain in the same position). but if uve had experiences like these, please share.

Ah, a waking dream. o_o I've had several of those, though I did see stuff, and hear weird inhuman-like sounds. But I wasn't really afraid, since I realized I was awake. Also I knew reason I couldn't move, because your brain paralyzes you during sleep. ._. So...I just dismissed everything as a hallucination, but my first one had Thanatos or the Grim Reaper looming over me, with a sickle of some sort.

While it might be Bangungot or not, I've actually had similar experiences, although not as extreme as your situations.

Mine aren't really superstitious, but the instances that it occurs, I feel very much awake (since I am able to pick out every detail of my surroundings), but I can't move. Someone will grab me from behind and but I can't move at all, like I can't even wriggle or squirm, I'm just frozen. Same thing when someone grabbed onto my leg. I wanted to break free, but I couldn't do a thing. I guess lucky for me, each time since they are either behind me or on the other side of me, I can't see them.

Like it's so strange because when I do wake up, I can't tell if it was really a dream or not. I mean, it's not unusual for my friends to randomly run into my room and pull some prank, but when I ask them about it, they tell me they haven't done anything.

Oh another thing, my friend told me he saw me sleep with my eye half open. He said he tried talking to me, but I didn't respond, and he said it was really creepy. I know it's not abnormal to sleep like that once in awhile, but it's the first time it's ever happened to me...

I must really be stressed, haha.

I've had that many times (at least 4 times)

One of those times, I can see that there's a woman with messy long hair that cover her face, wearing a white dress laughing in a high pitch standing next to my bed. And there was a red-coloured skin boy with donkey-shaped ears (like elf's ears) and bald head mumbling at the other side....

But it is said that we experience this kind of thing because our body is still asleep while our mind is fully awake. Thus, we cannot move our body....

I got many of such 'bangouts' the last months. It was always the same, first strange noises than it felt like someone is struggeling me. I'm awake but I can't move, can't open my eyes than suddenly it's gone.
I haven't really thought about it, I just thougth it's maybe caused by stress.
It's interesting that you got similar experiences...

Please continue posting your experiences, I really would like to know more of these bangouts and the cause of them.

i've had those before..

i'm really good at forcing myself out of any unfavorable dream.
practicing since i was a wee kid. it's just control & logic.
tell yourself it's just a silly dream and `force` yourself to wake up Image

OMG i've had those before. . . its so creepy cause for the past years
i`ve been wondering what the heck was going on at first i thought
i was dreaming that in was awake but then my cousin came over
one time and i was still a sleep , but just like sylvir ;
my cousin told me that my eyes were likee half opened and something
and dan like before she shook me awake i remember
seeing this dark figure running around this strange room i was in
( in my dream ) my bed was just like in the middle of noh where-ish
i forced myself to wake up but i couldnt ! so then my cousin shook me
awake and BOY WAS I HAPPY TO GET WOKEN UP ! even though
it was only 7 a.m on a sunday =____=

++ after reading aboutt this thing i did some insane re-search and i found
out it was due to hydration ? or something . for everyone that enjoys
eatingg noodles , try to prevent from eating before sleeping orr
eat the noodles wait about 1 - 2 hours DRINK LOTS OF WATERR
then go to sleep , but i`ve been reading scary stories for the past 3 hours

AND IIM SO HUNGRY I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO MAKING NOODLES.

wow this is all very interesting and..very spooky experiences here. Image
i've had a couple of similar experiences like these above... but not really.. well thats for you to decide. Image
when i was younger..about 10 years ago, i lived in an old house- i don't really know much about its history but i found it to be a very creepy house to live in. every body in my family believes that there was something off about it.
well anyway, in the living room- most of my family seemed to have experienced this "bangungot" feeling. i've had it countless times. every time i were to fall asleep in that room - i could never seem to wake up. i'd be asleep and be aware that i'm sleeping but still couldn't do anything. it took a lot of effort for me to wake up. it felt that something was keeping me from waking up. and while i'm struggling to wake up, i'm totally aware of whats happening around me and as well as this strange presence near my head. i'm not sure if its a 'sign' of the "bangungot" but the end of the sofa that i would sleep on is where the entrance to the living room was. i would normally be able to tell who has entered the room or not because i'm sleeping near that entrance. but whatever it was, it just lingered at the entrance beside me. it was not a presence i was familiar with.

now fast forward to about 7-8 years (FYI i moved lol). i had some trouble sleeping. as mentioned above- i'd be sleeping but be awake. i'd feel something come into my room. i usually dismiss this because i'm usually dead tired. but these experiences i had were the freakiest things that happened to me since i moved away from that house. in these experiences i was PARALYZED. my first experience- i was asleep on my side. i had felt something behind me trying to pushing my shoulder and something in front of me pulling on my wrists trying to get me off my bed. the second time, i was on my back. this time i felt that there was something grabbing my ankles pulling me towards one end of the end. i could FEEL the bed move under me. while this was happening i saw shadows on my ceiling, swirling around. CREEPY. last time- i was on my back facing the ceiling. i felt something - a hand possibly-on my neck, suffocating me. it was difficult to breath.

i remember reading up on sleep disorders and folk lore about sleep/ dream demons- me thinks the "sleeping but awake" thing is a sleep condition. i forgot where i read it, but what it pretty much said was that your body is still sleeping/ resting but your brain is awake. Image that actually makes sense why you couldn't move but was still aware of the happenings around you.

this is slightly ironic. as i'm typing this i see google ads for mattresses and sleep apnea and disorders LOL. Image
