why is it that most anime based on school life??

This is me taking a wild guess here:
-Anime/manga are mostly watched/read by the teenage audience
Easier to relate to characters?
It's more interesting, in my opinion, as well.

japanese schools are much harsher than schools in US, especially in High school, all there is is study, I guess anime with happy school theme serves as a visualized wish, which gives them more viewers :o

It's more than just High School. They have to take exams after their fifth year of primary school to find which Junior school they would go and than they would have to take it 2 more times to figure out which High School and which College to go to. Education in Japan is very important to them.

ya..but the one at elementary lvl isnt that bad, the one at jr high lvl is a bit of hell
and the one at highschool ->college makes hell looks like a playground ..its the same in taiwan(where i am familiar with)

young characters make mistakes cos they don't know better and are still learning so writers make longer scripts by the characters growth make it seem the show is advancing and always changing cos the characters haven'rt decided who they#e gonna be

I think it's because school life is so deeply ingrained in Japanese/ Asian culture, Education is highly important and the Japanese school system is much different from in North America, it has a far more lasting effect due to its harshnesss. So I think school is a major theme because it touches closer to home.

because it's more younger people who watch anime, most viewers find it easier to relate to a school environment

i think its because..

its hard for the producers to make or design casual attire for the whole story..

so they have to make anime with uniform so that it'll be more easier..

the reason why I did not watch school days at first was cause the word school was there. I dont really watch any anime with the name school in it. I dunno why. Exception: ouran high school host club. School days was definitely an exception to the school setting genre.

I think it's probably because the market is centered or geared towards the teens/adolescent with that said..it would make sense that the readers could somehow relate or in a way be part of the anime in some level..or something like that.

for examples School Days, Code Geass & others....

i was juz wondering,why??...can any1 give me an answer.....

even if it wasn't totally school life, why is it that in ANY anime there'll be at least 1 or 2 characters that is still in their adolescence......

**tell me if this is a duplicate~~~

because the majority of the people watching anime are kids or teens...
in fact, anime is an industry targetting younger generation who can relate more to animes than older people...
