What lessons can we learn from console gamers? Who is a fault= factory defect or the gamer?

Xbox blamed in Clio fire; device left on too long, investigators say

One family in Michigan left a seven-year-old original Xbox powered on for up to four days running in their rec room. The console eventually got so hot that it ignited a spiral-bound notebook that had been resting against or near it, and from there went the whole house.

Update

The original Xbox had been the subject of a massive recall for just such an issue, as the power cords shipped with over 14 million of the consoles were implicated in overheating problems just like this one. The owners of the now incinerated unit say they didn't hear about the recall until after the fire had burned their apartment to a crisp.

So what do we learn ? First: Yes, leaving most electronic devices on for extended periods of time can lead to overheating, possibly with disastrous consequences. Try to keep all electronics well ventilated, and ensure that air vents are clear of dust and aren't blocked by anything (even a single sheet of paper can be enough to cause a dangerous overheating condition). Don't lock computers or consoles behind closed cabinets, either: Even if they don't burn down the house, you could damage the electronics inside when things get too hot.

Finally, keep tabs on recall notices by checking sites like Recalls.gov from time to time to make sure your gear isn't on the danger list. And of course, if you've still got an original Xbox in use, check out Microsoft's recall information . Better late than never.

It's possible.

It wouldn't hurt to turn your electrical appliances off when you don't need them. It would even help the environment.

I agree, leaving electronic devices on when you're not using it is bad for the environment, and increases your electricity bill unnecessarily...

I know, and you'll save a lot especially with the financial crisis that's going on.

Financial crisis doesn't keep me awake, since it's not me paying the energy bills But the environment worries me more, since the financial crisis might be over in a few months... but if the environment gets ruined any further, that will affect ourselves and our children...

Well, I don't pay my family's bills as well, considering my age. But it's my family's money, so, you know, it's quite hard to earn money.

But some people think that they'll be long dead when the Earth's resources run out or when the Earth is completely ruined, so why care? And they're not getting affected, and they'll never learn until something big has hit them.

And again I agree with you... sadly, people only seem to notice disastrous events if they occur suddenly and unexpected. Or with the example Al Gore uses: "throw a frog in boiling water, and it jumps back out immediately. but put the same frog in cold water and heat it very slowly, and... "
Same is happening to the environment and nobody seems to notice... apparently we need a hurricane Katrina or a tsunami every few months to reminds us about the worrying state of our planet

Everyone should see Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" in my opinion...
