honestly, i don't know. i'm adopted, what traits i have are the traits that make me me, and not my father or my adopted father.

well, the basic characteristics are already in you, and now it just depends on the surrounding of the child, of how it will shape/influence it's character, thinking, etc. what characteristics it will promote or undermine.

i say, yes, but only to a certain extent, the rest is all dependant on how the surrounding influences you.

In all honesty, I find it detestable that we should create solid definitions for human behavior due to the fact that an individual's surrounding is relative to them and them only. You can diagnose someone as being bi-polar and that may hold some truths, but the rest of the world still doesn't know every little detail nor all of the circumstances which bled together to create the result.

Then again, soft theories never make for impressive theories.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, I guess. Personalities aren't inheritent, so it's really all about how you're raised.

I doubt it, my parents are nice ,kind and warmhearted people, me im a jerk, messed up, and coldhearted. so i doubt i got any of that from my parents.

Yes I think children can inherit their parents/relatives personalities; genes probably influence in some way the way we talk or express ourselves, or even about how often we clean our bedroom. despite that we must keep in mind that genotype + enviroment = phenotype

maybe from your grandfather? your genes aren't just defined by your parents.

Maybe. Or they're just influenced by them in a way.

i honestly don't think you can inherit personality traits from your parents. parents can definitely have a strong influence on the development of your personality but inheriting? i don't think so.

I've noticed it with little kids: Up to five years old (that's my approximation) they are usually copying what their parents/sisters/brothers/etc do, but after around five, they start to show some of their personal behavior, something which their parents did not show them.

So I'd have to say that it's a mix, but mostly your personality is what you choose it to be, other things like posture and walk are probably inherited but you can still change them if you like. And others like eye color or hair color or build can't be changed.

My opinion.
