Well see heres the thing. I too agree it should just be an innate right.

And i think several times it has been brought up into congress...But when it has been it has been pushed aside to the back burner for more "important" issues.

I believe the last time it was brought up was right about the time we invaded Iraq and because of all the commotion and bills trying to pass for the war @ the time no one ever tried to reassert it into the process.

If we do in fact end up pulling troops out of Iraq sometime next year i feel then would be an oppertune time to try to has it brought up again since there won't be any other deabacles going around to offset the importance of it.

But even then there would be multiple hearings about it. Multiple votes, legality process and someone would take an obscene amount of time to write up a bill then it would have to be revised multiple times. Which could take several years to have something everyone would agree one because even in our Congress we have those who do not share the opinion that "all people are created equal"

True enough I believe that even though the troops may be pulled....but knowing the machine in politics the infamous controversials (i.e. abortion, gay marriage) may rear their heads again in Congress and the Senate and Supreme Courts. Thus, pushing back the importance of banning this law.

Politics thrives on media coverage.......the more an issue is given attention the more the lawmakers will try to push and make it official......this probably will not become an issue because if we were distracted from the war on Iraq for something as trivial as Gay Marriage....this law may never get banned!

The issue of Hip Hop music and lyrics have also surfaced in this campaign, with Obama's camp coming under fire for the use of a Jay-Z song.
During Obama's victory party in Iowa, Jay's "99 Problems" was played over the loud speaker. Some imply that the line "99 problems but a bitch ain't one" was a thinly veiled shot at his political rival.
The Clinton camp says they "didn't know" Obama used the song and Obama says he is a fan of rap music, dismissing the notion that the song selection was aimed at his political rival.
"I tell you what, I can tell you the kinds of stuff I love dancing to . . . I'm sort of the generation of Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind & Fire," he said in an interview with CNN. "But I'm sort of hip to the younger stuff. You know, like Beyoncé's 'Crazy in Love.' That's a good song to dance to.

i think somebody knew what they were doing, may not have been obama but somebody in his camp conciously selected to take a subliminal shot at hillary

At a NAACP Meeting, President Bush finally met with the leaders
and assured them that he would sign the right to vote bill for another 25
years.

My only concern is: Do the other race have to be subjected to a right to
vote extension? Personally, the President, if he really wanted to show Good
faith, should have abolished this bill and made it simply a right with no
limitations. But then maybe I am living in a dream world. However, I know
IT CAN BE DONE!! Voting Rights Act-Expires for blacks in 2007.

Below you will find a speech that Bill Cosby's wife gave at a function.
Everyone please read this and pass it on to as many African Americans you
come in contact with.

Camille Cosby just made a reference about the Voting Rights Act in her most
recent open letter on racism. This is extremely important. We are in the
21st Century and we were wondering, and when I say 'we', I mean others of
us out there who wonder if everyone else out there knows what the
significance of the year 2007 is to Black America?

Did you know that our right to VOTE will expire in the year 2007?
Seriously! The Voters Rights Act signed in 1965 by Lyndon B. Johnson was
just an ACT. It was not made a law.

In 1982, Ronald Reagan amended the Voters Rights Act for another 25 years.
Which means that in the year 2007 we could lose the Right to vote!

Does anyone realize that African Americans are the only group of people who
require PERMISSION under the United States Constitution to vote!

In the year 2007, Congress will once again convene to decide whether or not
Blacks should retain the rights to vote (crazy but true).

In order for th is to be passed, 38 states will have to approve an
extension. This is ludicrous! Not only should the extension be approved,
but also the ACT must be made a law.

Our right to vote should no longer be up for discussion, review and/or
evaluation.

We must contact our Congress-persons, Senators, Alder persons, etc., to put
a stop to this! As bona fide Citizens of the United States , we cannot "drop
the ball" on this one! We have come too far to let government make us take
such a huge step backward. So please, let us push forward to continue to
build the momentum towards gaining equality.

Please pass this onto others, as we are sure that many more individuals are
not aware of this. I urge all of you that are able, to contact those in
government that have your vote and make them aware of our combined concern for
this issue.

One voice!...... One Vote! You cannot complain, if you do not
participate. ....local, State, & national....

When I received this one I had no choice but to pass it on. Please do the
same!

We had a long discussion on a the issue of Voting Rights Act of 1965 in my political science class a few years ago, and im happy to say that about 99% of that post is FALSE, within about 1 minute on google i found this link

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa120298.htm

also if u plan on voting please be an informed voter read all about the future presidents initiatives.

I don't know about you guys, but I really hate getting false information. For anyone posting "Hot News" on here, I highly recommend checking the accuracy of the article before spreading the word. The relatively uninformed masses here on CR will be eternally grateful. (Whether they realize it or not)

Not trying to offend anyone here, but honestly I just don't think America is ready for a black president..I don't really think they're ready for a woman president neither but the majority would probably prefer a white lady over a black man. But hey that's just my opinion so don't take it too seriously..

Yeah. I think there woud be a lot of attempts. So much that like the Clinton's he's going to have Secret Services and Security for life. It's not a bad idea either. I'm willingly pay taxes to keep him in office as long as he doesn't screw up!!!! He has some big shoes to fill...and messes.
