And I for one am livid with this. One Missed Call which is not the best horror movie out there is still one of my favorites however it is now being remade in Hollywood. I was shocked when I found out about this but not as shocked when I heard that the greatest romantic comedy ever will be remade…

Don’t have a heart attack people.. Ready for this? “My Sassy Girl” is getting the Hollywood horrible treatment. The actors include Jesse Bradford as Kyun-woo and Elisha Cuthbert as the girl.. VERY bad choice for casting in my opinion. I am very angry with this because I wish Hollywood would just leave a good foreign movie alone and stop trying to make a quick buck with a remake off of a hit movie.

yeah, look what hollywood did to the grudge and pulse (ok, pulse sucked anyway - but still).

Ju-on was soo much better then the grudge. sara michelle whatever the hell can't act her way out of a paper bag and totally ruined anything that movie had to offer.

I was always wondering why people considered that movie to be the scariest movie of that year. It was crap. I was scared sh!tless with Ju-On but the grudge did nothing for me.

ju-on scared the shit out of me too the grudge just irritated me.

but realy - hollywood is more about making a buck then it is about doing a good story. they dumb things down as far as possible 'cause they think everyone but them (hollywood producers and actors alike) are stupid. Lately the talent well has dried up and all they have been doing for the past several years is make movie adaptations of novels and re-make older and foreign films...badly at that (eragon sucked ass too).

It would be nice to see them actually get off their collective ass' and make a good film - ok, 300 is the exception at the moment, but that was still a screenplay of a novel based on the battle of thermopyle anyway. they did do a good job on it though

Great...Now the masses will think Hollywood made them first...Why can't they accept foreign films as they are? Are they too racist to accept that some foreign films are just better?

uhmmm...your joking about that racist remark, right? if not, uhmmm - you may need to get over all that. Hollywood isn't racist, that would get in the way of profits.

Lets face it though, most people in the US have no clue at all when it comes to foreign films. But hollywood isn't limiting itself to foreign films either. In the last several years more movies have been remade then most people realize. Bad News Bears, Dawn of the Dead, Fun with Dick and Jane, The Amityville Horror, Assault on Precinct 13, S.W.A.T., The Mod Squad, Bedazzled, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the list just keeps going.

It's all in the name of the allmighty dollar and a fundamental lack of imagination.

Now I would think that Hollywood just tweaks the stuff a bit to make it more appropriate for American viewers, meaning what's most applicable to their culture. Take for example when you're watching subs. Some subbers include bits of explanations that would otherwise not really apply to the American audience either because they don't understand the significance or will just not really apply no matter how you look at it.

"My Sassy Girl" is a great hit btw and I personally like the original film.

I'm not sure why it's a serious problem. I mean Japan, Korea and China remake each other's films almost all the time. Takashi Miike did a remake of the Korean film, 'The Quiet Family' with 'Happiness of the Katakuris', for example. Also, there are many Asian remakes of American/British/etc. films.

All in all, a remake is just an interpretation - not a literal translation - of an original (whether it's a film or book). And that is exactly how it should be.

Personally I didn't like Martin Scorcese's 'The Departed' (version of 'Infernal Affairs'), but hey, it works for some. Roy Lee's almost single-handedly responsible for the whole Asian film remake thing, so if you need someone's arse to kick, go for his.

Back to topic: IMO, American/British remakes give original films (and its directors and actors/actresses) the exposure they otherwise wouldn't get. So, it's mostly for this reason I don't mind the whole Asian remake thing.

Anyway, as far as I know, there will be remakes (at least, those with remake options sold):

- Shutter
- A Tale of Two Sisters (a remake of an earlier version and also, there will be two remakes of this one)
- My Wife is a Gangster
- The Eye (Jessica Alba)
- Oldboy
- Infection (Rasen)
- The Host
- Himitsu
- 3-Iron
- Audition
- Itazura na Kiss (Mischievous Kiss / It Started With a Kiss)
- Shinku
- Ikiru
- Be With You
- Majo no takkyûbin (Kikki's Delivery Service)
- The Art of Seduction (which is a remake of 'Ying xiong')
- Ditto
- My Tutor Friend
- Battle Royale.

^ Er ... that is being shopped around as a possible remake.

Edit: well, not the live-action series. Live-action 'remake' of the anime version, I think. Will check if anyone's interested.

I think 'One Missed Call' might make an okay transition into US market, but I'm a little afraid to see what they'll do to 'My Sassy Girl.' Considering the current state of the US teen romantic comedy ('John Tucker Must Die' I'm looking at you), it could be just a bit disasterous.

Yea Martin Sorcese(sp?) and the screenplay writer won an award for The Departed, which is obviously Infernal Affairs. =x

Though I must admit The Departed was a good movie.

The worst thing about the American remake of My Sassy Girl is that the character has names. That's right names. In the original all the characters except the guy has no names.
