I think the One Piece is Luffy's hat , because Gold D Roger wore it Shanks wore it but he didn't want to be pirate king
so he gave it to Luffy that dreamed to be the one !

To me, it's like what Hoangle2207 has said.
It's like traveling around the world, meeting new people, help those in danger, make the world an much better place to live in.
Weather One Piece is an treasure or an person. To me, I doubt Luffy cares. He just want to be an person who have become an King of the Ocean.
