ATTENTION TO ALL CRUNCHYROLL MODERATORS, CREATORS, USERS, AND UPLOADERS:

Recently it has come to my attention, and several other crunchyroll users, that "One Piece" has been re-licensed by FUNimation, and plans for releasing new episodes, as well as re-workings of previous episodes and uncut DVDs, are in the works. While I and other "One Piece" fans who visit this site are sure to support FUNimation's version of the anime, it has come to our realization that "One Piece" is now liable for being removed from the site, due to crunchyroll's policy of not allowing licensed anime to be uploaded to the site.

I and I'm sure many other crunchyroll users find this policy to be inconsistent, flawed, and unfair, because it's not upheld properly. While every anime licensed for English-speaking territories that has been uploaded to this site is either removed or marked for removal, two series have become exceptions: "Naruto" and Bleach". While these two animes have very prominent, vocal fan-followings and attract visitors to the site, they are still licensed for English-speaking territories. They've been airing on American, Canadian, and British television with great success and have uncut, bilingual DVDs available for purchase, which also thus far have been performing well. While these two series are thus breaking even and meeting expectations by their licensor, VIZ Media, and possibly exceeding them, they are still the only two animes of crunhyroll that bypass the "no uploadig of licensed anime" rule of the site.

The vocal fanbase of "One Piece" has found this troublesome due to the fact that the only way they could view the series in its original form was through fansubs, which are effectively unlawful. The series was taken down once already due to its licensed status, despite "Naruto" and "Bleach" having the same status while being allowed to be viewed on the site. "One Piece" was re-uploaded thanks to the revealing of 4Kids' cancellation of production, but with the exciting news of FUNimation taking over the series comes the possibilty of it being removed again, while "Naruto" and "Bleach" get to stay.

So far FUNimation will be producing episodes 144-205 for Cartoon Network, along with the possibilty of episodes 1-143 when and if their production schedulr permits it. The "One Piece" fans of crunchyroll ask that whatever episodes of "One Piece" which have not been officially confirmed for release by FUNimation not be removed, or at the very least not have the "One Piece" specials, movies, and O.V.A. removed, as they remain unlicensed.

Of course I wouldn't be creating this petition if not for other anime uploaded to this site that's been removed. Many other English-licensed animes uploaded to crunchyroll that have been removed have not had the privilege of having an uncut, bilingual release for their respective markets, and/or have also been cancelled for production. There is no evidence that these specific animes will see an uncut, bilingual release for the English-speaking market(s) in the forseeable future, or go back into production. The animes which have met this fate are, but not necessarily limited to:

-Air Master (cancelled uncut, blingual release, out-of-print)
-Astro Boy (no bilngual release in original Japanese format w/English subtitles)
-Black Jack T.V. 2004 (not even licensed for English-speaking markets )
-Cardcaptor Sakura (Geneon license expired according to unofficial sources, out-of-print)
-Cardcaptor Sakura Movies (same status as T.V. series)
- Dragonball (this may be stretching it, however an English uncut, bilingual release of episodes 1-13 has not yet happened in North America)
-Dragon Warrior (marked for removal, but Saban's license has expired)
-Fist of the North Star (production cancelled)
-Hamtaro (no uncut, bilingual release for English-speaking markets)
-Konjiki no Gash Bell (no uncut, bilingual release for English-speaking markets)
-Lupin III TV2 (release discontinued)
-Macross 7 (unlicensed)
-Medabots (no uncut, bilingual release for English-speaking markets, at least to my knowledge)
-Mirmo Zibang! (marked for removal, but no officail release in English-speaking markets)
-Rave Master (no uncut, bilingual release for English-speaking markets, production discontinued)
-Rockman EXE (no uncut, bilingual release in English-speaking markets)
-Samurai Pizza Cats (marked for removal, however the license has expired)
-Sci-Fi Harry (unreleased)
-Shaman King (uncut, bilingual release discontinued, out-of-print)
-Slam Dunk (uncut, bilingual release cancelled, out-of-print)
-Sonic X (no uncut, bilingual release for English-speaking markets)
-Tokyo Mew Mew (no uncut, bilingual release for English-speaking markets)
-Yu-Gi-Oh! TV 1 (uncut, bilingual release discontinued, out-of-print)
-Yu-Gi-Oh1 GX (no uncut, bilingual release)
-Black Jack 21 (removed, but not licensed)

I have created this petition for the fair treatment of all anime uploaded here under the policy of crunchyroll. If animes are removed from this site under the uploading policy, then so must each one, including "Naruto" and "Bleach". Otherwise, animes that were unjustifiably removed must be given another opportunity on crunchyroll.com.

Each individual user who posts in support of this cause will count as one signature. If anyone has anything else to contribute, suggest, criticize, or anything else, please feel free to do so.

Eh, I wouldn't freak out until you see the anime taken down. I heard about it being licensed the other day but I leave it up the media moderater's discretion to judge whether a series should be put up or taken down.

The only american distributor to request CR take down their anime has been ADV (to the best of my knowledge at least). CR decided to take down the rest of the licensed anime at a certain point to cut down on traffic, though several series - aside from Bleach and Naruto - have managed to slip through the cracks as well.

Still, it's not your (or my) ass on the line if someone decides to go balls out against CR and Shinji for distributing licensed anime, so it's really not up to us to make that decision. Personally, I wouldn't have any anime up that was licensed - including One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and Death Note. Plenty of other sites have all those up, let them take the traffic and the risk.

This place has such an absurd amount of anime to enjoy, even losing the 300+ episode One Piece isn't really that big a deal. And it's not like this is the only streaming anime site out there. Or you could just download it as well. Ideally, you should support the series you claim to enjoy so much and buy it on DVD. Funi does good stuff now a days - they're worth supporting. Funi 5+ years ago was a different story though...

I really don't see what you think a petition will accomplish. What are you threatening them with? Not coming here anymore? Yeah... I don't think this place is hurting for traffic. Not contributing? Oh wait - you don't already. You don't upload and don't donate. So.... I fail to see what your petition is going to accomplish.

I second this petition to keep any unlicensed OP videos.

we are trying to keep OP unlicensed work on CR due to the fact that there is a huge fan base on the net. This petition is to help keep it here granted that all license OP be removed but keep on the others that is ongoing. And yes, many of us do buy the manga and the box sets that were created for OP, but we are also aware that many fans do not have the money to buy it and would not like to see OP be edited and the only way to watch or see Op is through bit torrents and streaming media. Which CR is. Please support OP by posting your vote here to keep any unlicensed OP work on CR.

hmm, yup these policies are not strictly followed, for us, the people who stream on this site. but it is only fair to those who do contribute to the site, not saying i do, and to those who buy the dvd's and manga, yah, i have to choose well, that these shows that are licensed ahould be taken down... LOL, that was crazy. i support anything that will help maintain OP as unlicensed, even if i already have most of its DVDs to show other anime fans what a good show it is. cuz this place is one of the few where we can enjoy quality TV shows.

as long as there is a fansub release you don't have to worry about it being taken down, at least not in the short run

Azrael: I think you got the wrong impression of this Petition. Firecrouch has contributed much for this site and if you are talking about donating, that is not everything. Just to clarify things; I asked him to write up a petition due to his articulation abilities. He's a great writer and has very good insights. We are not requesting that License work be put on CR, rather we are requesting that works that are not license be put on CR and even if part of a series is license then the parts that are not license be still on CR. Is that to much to ask. This whole petition started because of "One Piece" which has just been license by funimation. They have acquire 1 to 205 and that does not include the mini shorts, the movies or any episodes after 205. Therefore we are requesting Mods, and shinji to keep OP on CR and remove any that is license in the series rather than removing ALL of it.

o__o No need to get upset laddies.

To respond to the whines about One Piece:

We're still going to allow new episodes of One Piece to be uploaded. If anything we will delete the episodes that have already been released in America.

4Kids Entertainment previously had the rights to it but they canceled production, which is why we allowed it on the site up until now.

To respond to the "fair treatment" comment:

BasouKazuma wrote:

Shinji hasnt taken down any newly licensed anime since his initial batch.

So no, there is no 'unfair treatment'. It's just a matter of shinji's time and when he'll remove them. Media mods cannot remove videos, we can only move them to folders that are inaccessible.

Can Classy or one of the other media mods clarify for me?

Does that mean someone can upload yu-gi-oh???

Well, it's true, I was wondering why Naruto, Bleach and One Piece was still being uploaded, I thought initially because of its strong fan base, (which probably still applies) but I think it's fair to upload episodes that have not been aired yet.
Yet there are heaps of other licensed things on this site I wish was uploaded, but are not probably due to unpopularity, so it's not fair in the sense that all licensed works are not treated the same on crunchyroll.

But then again, everything is up to the owner of the site
