I was surprised that isn't a thread for this....(or maybe there is, I just couldn't find it...if so, sorry!)

What's the best East Asian movie ever? Hollywood films directed by East Asian directors do not count (ie. Brokeback mountain doesn't count as Asian even though it was directed by Ang Lee) as Asian.

My favorite movie of all times would have to be The Road Home
The love between the main characters were so simple, yet so pure and beautiful. It's not complicated or dramatic, but sweet and to the point.

Despite the elaborate costumes in Heroes, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, or the Memoirs of a Geisha, Zhang Ziyi has never looked so beautiful than as a normal country girl in this movie.

Similarly, none of Zhang Yimou's movies, no matter how elaborate (okay, maybe except for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics) have touched me more than the grassy landscape of The Road Home.

Oh yeah I remember watching The Road Home here in the movie theaters, it was a special foreign movies theater...great movie. Probably my favorite for Zhang ZiYi, even though I don't like her.

It is absolutely the sweetest movie ever. The story is extremely simple, but the acting, directing, and everything was superb.

You should be able to buy/rent/borrow it anywhere on earth...
I live in the US, and pretty much every library or Blockbuster has it.
It's a pretty big Hollywood film.
