Slowly attempting to control the internet aswell eh, discusting.
(& will never happen, hopefully)

I doubt the U.S goverment will be serious about this it's more than likely meant to scare people into stopping illegal downloading & whatnot, but if they do try this and start confiscating alot of stuff, the people arent gonna take it sitting down, i foresee alot of strikes.

We'll i live in england anyways so im not too concerned about it, not like they would catch me even if it was brought about in england too.

Alright i read the whole freaking law and i wish this was the correct law in question. I'm gonna summarize the law in exact words and my own words and in my own understanding.

- It enhances the other laws that is concerned with copyright, infringements, exports, imports from the US to other countries or vice versa.

Sec 102. Civil remedies for infringement (Copyright or unauthorized use of material)
(a)(1) at any time while an action under this title is pending, the court may order the impounding, on such terms as it may deem reasonable.....
1st - of ALL COPIES or PHONORECORDS (i dont know what that means) claimed to have been made or "used" in violation of the exclusive right of the copyright owner. >> i guess this means the computers, diskettes, cds, or mp3s are in question here.
2nd. < you dont need to worry about this unless you're selling plates, molds, film negatives etc

>> correct me if I'm wrong: Songs and videos falls here

(b) Protective Order for Seized Records
- ANY materials siezed shall be "taken into the custody of the court"

Sec 103. talks about conterfeiting (imitation of the original)
> correct me if I'm wrong but fansubbing falls here. right?

skip... skip....
Sec 204: Unathorized Recording of Motion Pictures..
Sec 205: Trafficking in Counterfeit Goods or Services (meaning transhipped THROUGH or Exported from the US) >i guess other countries doesn't apply here but then comes................. TITLE 3- which says that they'll coordinate and help strengthen other countries' on their fight against piracy etc.

Sec. 302 >> Intellectual Property Enforcement means matter relating to the enforcement of laws protecting copyrights, patents, trademarks, other forms of intellectual property, and trade secrets, BOTH in the US and ABROAD.

Other parts of the Law are for governement officials. It was so boring but I read it all.. and i see BIG digits like.

$2,000,000, a couple of $10,000,000 in departments and stuffs.
< makes me wonder. why the hell are we supposed to pay the tax for this crap of shit?

answer. It helps the economy in what way? Without piracy and stuffs that are illegal. It will "force" people to buy the "original". Those "original" will have taxes and it will be given to their respective goverments. See the point? BUT
Why do we, the consumers, need to pay the tax? Why not let the companies pay them? Instead of $29.99 (+tax). Ever wonder why we pay tax not the companies? (I'm just assuming things in here. I mean no harm or anything)

----Taken from some website-- i forgot where i read the Law.

I'll edit this if i have the time.. right now i have a class. so what do you guys think?

if that is the case, I think from my point of view all the site that use file sharing will be ceased but on the other hand, many people still buys the original and upload it on their site, I guez the near solution will be, everytym you upload something always give the CREDIT TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNER

Lol. I live in canada. We have a law like that in my province though its a little different. Your allowd downloading only for your own use but if you distribute it in a bad way they'll give you a fine you'll never be able to pay. Hope the jackass who thought of thought of the law just dies. The stupid law wont effect canada. Will it?

On Monday, United States President George W. Bush signed into law the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property (PRO IP) Act, which will allow authorities to seize property in civil copyright cases and will create an "Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator" position to oversee the government's efforts in copyright enforcement.

An earlier version of the bill, then known as the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights Act, had included a provision which would have allowed the Justice Department to bring civil lawsuits against intellectual property infringers on behalf of content owners. A second provision would have counted individual songs on an album as separate works if they were created by different artists, and thus would have dramatically increased the penalties an infringer would face. Both of these provisions were removed before the bill reached the president.

Certain provisions did survive which would allow for seizure of "property used, or intended to be used, in any manner or part to commit or facilitate" copyright or trademark infringement. Broadly interpreted, these provisions could apply to computers used for file-sharing video and audio content. The final version of the bill had passed the Senate on September 26 by unanimous consent and had passed the House of Representatives on September 28 by a 381 to 41 margin.

In a separate development last week, Canada's Conservative Party's election platform promises to re-introduce copyright-reform legislation that would increase the fines for unauthorized downloads of copyrighted materials. The party's proposed legislation would also outlaw attempts to circumvent digital rights management schemes, just as America's Digital Millennium Copyright Act has made most forms of circumvention illegal. Conservative Party's earlier attempt to introduce copyright legislation met heavy resistance and was quietly dropped earlier this year.

So what do you guys think? I don't think this one's a duplicate if it is. The one before was "a bill" this one is "a law"

[edit]

-Although it says here "USA" it also affects other foreign countries. e.g. Japan.
-I don't know if it will affect the fansub as a whole.. and the DLing of Japanese anime songs.

I haven't read the whole bill coz it's freaking long 63 pages. give me some time though and I "might" explain it further.

fuck! 63 pages?!
