I think this "LAW" was meant to Nail Down Large illegal DLer's company coz I think the US thinks that if they Manage to Cut-off the Head This will prevent crimes like "PIRACY" or any other like it coz its making Media including anime Industry go "DOWN"

Does my comment have a sense?..

But I hope this "LAW" will not prevent or seize "ANIME STREAMING and ANIME MEDIA sharing"

How does that song go?

"I am proud to be an American, for at least I know I'm free" or something like that.

Well, according to this, you're not, haha. Aww this is funny for me since I live in Canada. The only reason this is getting passed is because Bush is getting run out of office, so he's just doing whatever the hell he wants while he still can. I highly doubt a law like this will be passed in Canada. While I suppose in an ideal world this would be a good thing, but sadly, we don't live in such a place. There will be confusing, there will be chaos, and for me, there will be laughter.

Just when u go on a trip just disable the hard disk and leave only the partition with windows, then they wont find shit since if they control u they need a clearance from someone with high grades, or how the hell that paper is named , anyway, they can't do sh1t about this so stop being so affraid.

In a separate development last week, Canada's Conservative Party's election platform promises to re-introduce copyright-reform legislation that would increase the fines for unauthorized downloads of copyrighted materials. The party's proposed legislation would also outlaw attempts to circumvent digital rights management schemes, just as America's Digital Millennium Copyright Act has made most forms of circumvention illegal. Conservative Party's earlier attempt to introduce copyright legislation met heavy resistance and was quietly dropped earlier this year.

Really glad I didn't vote for them.

I'll try to explain it again after i read the whole law.

But as for now (without reading the whole law)

it says that.. Downloading or Uploading Copyright Materials.. (e.g. songs, movies, softwares, games yes PSP games) will be prosecuted under civil law. Not only the distributor (uploaders or the one who uploads those songs, videos etc) but also the downloader (us as in "we") as well. I don't know about the fine or the punishment yet.

[edit]

@taei.. I'm not to sure about those. But there was this some random guy who said that If there are songs already in your mp3s you wont get sued. but THEN there was this another guy who said that you will be.

for some reasons i can't use the quote mark >_>

and if someone out there who can enlighten us what this law is all about. please feel free to do so.. I'm not a jackass who knows everything. Sorry for my lack of knowledge

Hey I live in The Bahamas;
so BUSH "Can't Touch Me! <dini ninin ninnin ninnin> Can't Touch Me!" \\_(^o^)_//
Although I may still be affected since some of my major sources may be cut off //_(T~T)_\\

They can't get us all!!!
I mean c'mon, what's the best they can freakin do? Track our IP adresses? Monitor our downloads?
Everyone's been doing this since Free Music Download came out in the early 2000's XD

Bush is a tard, he and his lawmakers or whatever ya like to call'em can't enforce this because no
one is gonna follow this. Just like how they can't enforce the NO ELECTRONICS RULE at schools.
Everyone will continue to download stuff off the internet and will not give a shit about what Bush has ta
say. Geez. He's wasting his time making all these laws! And what's the point of not letting people download
anime music off the net? How the hell are we gonna get it? Go to Japan and buy the CD's, which cost thousands
of yen?

I blame capitalism for our economy's downfall! Trying to rip kids off their entertainment!
It's like stealing candy from a freakin baby!!!
Another bullcrap attempt to ruin our lives, thanks alot you stupid government, thanks alot! D:<

Wish I new more a/b law and politics. My ignorant opinion is that.
imeem and veoh or other sites are able to persist because under law they are not responsible for the content that is posted. They tell you not to post copyrighted materials, but obviously they aren't policing that. And one must wonder if they even heed DMCA take down notifications

Peer to peer networks are already illegal for copyright materials, and I don't hear of a lot happening there.

Little teenie bops (unless they have some dedicated hardware out there for file sharing) aren't going to be pursued (the ROI would be damaging both financially and politically). There might be a few "lets make an example" cases to spread the word but that's it.

Crunchyroll is basically safe (IMHO) since it doesn't allow for licensed media to be posted. I guess a case could be made the we are premptively lessening demand before such licensing contracts can even be made. However until recently no studios tried to even change their business model to one in which revenues were made by advertising or customer's to pay for downloads. Many of their websites don't have English translations to even inform the English consumer base of their media. This communicated to me that they are primarily interested in their domestic market or that they didn't have the foresight to outsource to legit companies what was already being demanded in mass by the market via illegal downloads or streams. If they can't accomplish that then how are they to mediate through this law concerning fan sub distributions that are "by law" not even licensed or available in the US? That is at least what my current logic for thinking why fansubs and CR are safe.

Besides Crunchyroll is trying to profit the anime studios now because it will be profitable for them with such a large user base already established (alexa.com). It would be foolish to destroy something that can be made to work for both the consumers and studios.
