Well, considering that half of the shows the OP listed were crap and actually quite recent or still ongoing...he may have unwittingly and paradoxically proved his point with the wrong list.

On a side note, Xam'd is actually good. Better than Karin and Negima!, at least.

....I'll agree with you about character designs being pretty cool (and tolerable by my standards) back in the days of old, but man. I might have to say that Stock Footage is as old as the 70s (although not easily noticeable) - you might want to watch Zambot 3 and Daitarn 3 for examples (The Italian dub for Daitarn 3 is up at Youtube: the best way to find the episodes is to type 'Daitarn III' in the search field). Hell, even Ideon had stock animation.

While it's true that classics like The Legend of the Galactic Heroes don't come often at all, and I haven't really seen any similar quality recently, I doubt that you can expect them to come around more than once every couple of years.

One word: Tytania. If Tytania does not become a Code Geass, it is likely to become an LoGH. It's written by the same guy behind LoGH: Yoshiki Tanaka.

Though it's still too early to judge, don't you think?

yes they did use it all form of animation going to the 40's but it was not used as much as it is not and as u said it was not as noticeable.

i don't think anime is losing touch. i think it's reinventing itself. new stories are an experiment. old series are being brought back with an awesome vengeance. i think if it were still playing everything previously listed, it'd be losing touch. i miss the good ol' cell by cell. and sometimes sloppy CGI is a vicious crime, but it's all in trial. Besides, rushed week by week footage and stock can't be 100% the blame of animators. i'm sure demanding public is a factor. i agree some characters and story lines are smelling rehashed. hopefully it won't be a continued trend.

True in a way Wahoo6692. What's really happening nowadays is were getting much better animation in your regular shows than back, let's say...8-10 years. Even if CG's are starting to take over many hard-to-animate scenes, if they're done properly, the effect is stunning. Take Neon Genesis Evangelion's recent remakes for example, they're absolutely amazing compared to the stuff they did back in the 90's. The only problem is after so many years of different anime's, it gets hard to make something totally original.
At first I was going to say you were right but then I start thinking of 5cm per second; it's absolute evidence that anime is turning more into a more refined art form instead of just entertainment. Have you seen it yet? If you haven't, do it. You'll get what I mean

depends which specific anime.

some from back then are better than ones now, but some of the new ones are just as good.
maybe it's because your expectations are higher now, idk.

(EX: Kara no Kyoukai is just awsum ^-^)

I been watch anime since 5 years agoa I have to admit the one from back then wer five time more better than anime they havetoday. I mean we use to have Witchblade, Gundam seed, Death Note, Code Geass, Full metal Alchemist, Full metal Panic, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Sousei no Aquarion, Black Cat, Black Lagoon, Claymore, Detective Conan, Tantei Gakuen Q, Fate Stay Night, Karin, Lovely Complex, Mai hime, Mai otome, Negima, Shakugan no shana, Zero no Tsukaima, The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Utawaerumono, Rurouni Kenshin, Tsubasa Chronicles, Saiunkoku monogatari, Eureka Seven, Gundam Wing, and ect.

Now those were good anime. They had good plot, good story, bad ass ending. And when it sad its actually really sad not just some boring sappy scene. And even if the anime isn't good by itself. At least the opening and ending music was lots better than the stuff we have today.
Hyakko, Soul Eater, Casshern Sins, Tytania, Shikabane hime: Aka, Kurozuka, Skip beat, Garei Zero, and Toradora, Xamd lost memories. I mean compare them to The anime back then they dont even come close.

back then?!?! most of the animes u just pointed out arent even that old ...

Here's my opinion on the animes u thought are good

Witchblade - havent seen it yet so no comment

Gundam Seed - dunno how u think this at awesome level. i thought i was an okay attempt to modernize the original

Death Note - i just dont like this series

Code Geass - awsome series (still wished Suzaku and Nina died)

Full Metal Alchemist - crap, manga was better

Full Metal Panic - its was alright, it could of been better

One Peice - as an anime its horrible (their battles are waaaay too long), but the manga verision is an delight to read

Bleach - crap, like one peice the manga is better

Naruto - anime ended up as an failure, not sure of the manga since I quited reading it a long time ago

Sousei no Aquarion - never seen it before

Black Cat - crap, manga was better

Black Lagoon - love the craziness in this series (Revy is AWESOME!!!)

Claymore - crap, manga was better

Detective Conan - good mystery genre anime

Tantei Gakuen Q - havent seen it yet

Fate Stay Night - havent seen it yet

Lovely Complex - havent seen it yet

Mai hime - just plain crap in my opinion

Mai otome - same as the above

Negima - crap, manga verision is LOADS BETTER!!

Shakugan no shana - not bad of an anime

Zero no Tsukaima - season 1&2 were good, but season 3 was an COMPLETE FAILURE!!!

The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - an decent and unique anime series, but like Naruto and Vampire Knight... its overrated to the extreme

Utawaerumono - havent seen it yet

Rurouni Kenshin - i LOVED this series

Tsubasa Chronicles - crap, manga is better

Saiunkoku monogatari - havent seen it yet

Eureka Seven - it wasnt that interesting to me...

Gundam Wing - I personally think this gundam series is the 2nd WORST gundam series next to Gundam Seed Destiny!! Heero was basically like Kira, but unlike Jesus Kira's hax piloting skill, Heero had the undying body. ALSO the last arc of the series was basically stolen from Char's Counter Attack

WOW , ur freaking horrible at being a anime critic

dunno about u, but I find Casshern SINS (remake of Neo Human Casshern 1970 anime), and Xam'd the Lost Memories (from the creators of FMA and Eureka7) to be AMOUNG the good animes

Here's an example of an GOOD anime: M-O-N-S-T-E-R. I dare say this anime alone can FREAKING TOP all the anime u just said that were good.

1. Anime takes a lot of time and effort to make. IE, these things have been in the works for years
2. Five years isn't all that long, don't speak like a historian.
3. Appeals to emotion, those were the first series that got you hooked on anime, of course you are going to remember them fondly
4. Discovery of cliché and repitition. A lot of those shows have plenty of cheesy moments and cliche characters, somebody who has watched anime since 10 years ago would recognize them. (or something like that)
5. A lot of those shows are pretty recent/on going/recently ended... I don't see how you are able to observe a trend
6. You can't make the claim there are no good new shows when you haven't seen all of them, or even all of the episodes in a season.
7. Do you want the exact same show or what? Its going to be different for better or for worse...

I don't think anime is losing its touch so much as you are becoming disillusioned, which is perhaps a good thing. Become more aware of your subjective and limited experience and watch older shows in a more critical light. Are you just trying to point the finger at a "general trend" rather than admit "today's" shows don't entertain you enough?

Yes... But this too is an exception, I'm afraid. Good - or even *decent* anime is very very thin on the ground these days.
