I've been listening to the Black Eyed Peas and the Pussycat Dolls a lot lately. I'm not sure what re-ignited my obsession with them.

That lisp ♥ Grimes - Crystal Ball (Live from a Mexico City's rooftop) Tremble Tremble SXSW 2011 : Grimes (Right-click the images and open new tab) I managed to see her live for Pitchfork Music Festival last year in Chicago and I was in Beatles fangirl mode when she performed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57693OG1uNU Anyhow been listening to alot of hip-hop, where I previously had looked down upon it. The current scene, mainly the underground but also a few mainstream emcees, is becoming something akin to when alternative rock popped around 1991 and breaking down what defines hip-hop. From electronic instrumentalists like LA-based Flying Lotus and Brainfeeder collective, 90s retro-revivalists like NYC boom bap from Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era Crew and horror-laden Southern rap from Spaceghostpurpp & RVIDXR KLVN (Raider Klan), cloud rap from A$AP Rocky, Main Attraktionz, Clams Casino to weirdos like Odd Future, Danny Brown, Action Bronson, Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, and rise of gay rappers like Le1f and Mykki Blanco, and return of social commentary lyrics from Black Hippy crew like Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock. I can go on and yes I'm over excited about it so I'll end it here. |
