Chapter 266 is a continued chapter of a new arc based on character popularity results.
Sorachi is still alive after being beaten up, but still had a temporary broken mind, which kept changing the drawing style. Fortunately this was only for a few pages. Shinpachi rushed to Gintoki's house to warn him about the attacks, only to find that the place is already ransacked.

A bunch of normal people led by Otose and Catherine started chasing after Shinpachi. Fortunately, Gintoki saved him and brought him to the hideout. Gintoki, Kagura, Okita, Hijikata, Kondo, Madao, Katsura, Elizabeth and Sadaharu in the hideout.

Kondo dress up like a China girl because he believes that Kamui got high popularity because of China style fashion, and Madao believes that following the eye patch could make him as popular.
Katsura was arrested, and also badly injured for very stupid reason. Sadaharu beating the crap out of Elizabeth, which Gintoki explained that they are fighting for the Mascot title.
The gang had a discussion which Shinpachi believed that they should fight to defend their rankings given by the fans. But some of them chose to fight one another, to conquer the popularity.
