The saddest death for me was definitely Light's in Death Note. I know he was the bad guy throughout all of it,but he really had a vision for the world and pretty much gave up everything, including his soul to "rid the world of evil." I don't think he ever understood that he was wrong- and when he purposely erased his memories of the Death Note,he actually wanted to help defeat Kira. He was a brilliant kid with a bright future, and it was all ruined because a shinigami got "bored." He went mad and was shot by his own assistant, but in the end it was really his companion through everything (Ryuk) who killed him and he truly lost. L and Light were both fighting for the same thing: Justice. I was depressed for days

I think Kikyou's death in Inuyasha was probably the most epic sad death in anime. And then their is quite a few more from the Jigoku shoujo series.

THANK YOU! I get so freakin tired of people bitchin about L dying. I didn't mind. For me too I was pretty sad when Light died. He used anyone he could as a pawn to stay out of trouble, and in the end I think he realized that he had given up what good things he really had going in his life. In the end he died with nothing.

A lot of people say grave of the fireflies was really sad, but I just thought that kid was such a stuck up brat that I had no sympathy for him. I guess it was sad that his little sister died, but I was too pissed at the main character to really feel sad about it.

1. Nagisa's death in Clannad was sad...even though she came back to life
2. Ushio's death in Clannad was again sad, (again) even though she came back to life.
3. L's death or Light's death in Death Note... I can't decide which was sadder.

L's death was awful! Part of me wished the series would have ended there.

Yeah, after I watched that part i was numb for a hour or so... ... >_< but he was kinda crazy when you think about it. In the begining, Light was so cool in planning plots and stuff but then he kinda just let his guard down.
