that sounds ridiculous... even if it is to deter crime, it seems to be encouraging it.

There have been a lot of cases where it seems the guy doing the wrong thing is rewarded. Its just ridiculous and wrong. Last year I read an article about these kids beating up on some old woman. Another man steps in, apparently he was a little 'rough' with these kids and gets charged with child abuse or something like that.

Another more recent crime, but still on topic

hopefully this link works. Had a little trouble finding it.

If, as it says on the link, he lost a tooth as a result of the security guys tackling him, they went way too far and he should have been compensated. He wasn't being rewarded for shoplifting. As it was, he was guilty of the shoplifting. What if security had tackled someone who was later proved innocent to that degree? It was the damage to the thief's body that was being compensated.

When you post topics like this, please give an example. I had no idea what you were talking about until Trivium posted a link.

I agree with Junglemummy about the compensation. If I was pulled over for speeding and then beaten... I would expect an apology, maybe in the form of cash.

You think the law is going to far by paying for pain & suffering, but what do you think when they go to the extreme in the other direction? (ie with the '3 stikes' rule a man was sentances several years for stealing a cookie, or another man for taking an old disney movie)

I am also curious about the case with the old woman in the driving lessons, that made no sence to me, can you supply some more info? I can't comment on what you gave.

"In a truely democratic nation, we would rather let the criminals run free than an innocent man be punished"
~I forget who said that

^in refrence to "What if security had tackled someone who was later proved innocent to that degree?" ~Junglemummy
