gurren lagann might be a rip off?
Posted 10/25/08

if you don't appreciate what /a/ has done then let me summarize it for the people

1.they have the same clothes (almost!)

2. they were both forced to live underground

3. they both found a girl inside a box and a redhaired gun chick

4. they both have the power to destroy (or in this case to escape the powah!)

5. they will fight 4 generals

and don't tell me that it was a coincidence since

BoF:dragon quarters was made on 2003

and TTGL was made on 2007

TTGL is a tribute/parody of big giant robot genre. the stories are similar but how they unfold is what sets them apart. The creator may have used BoFDQ as their predominate influence.
But the whole living under ground thing is used alot check this out...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_ember.
will write more later...

We might scream "Blatant Plagiarism!" on this one, But Kishimoto(Naruto's artist) pointed out that Dragon Ball is one of his inspirations, Same goes for TTGL/Dragon Quarters.

Btw, i was there when Mao posted that, And he did point out that Kamina wasn't really based on someone in that game, since the person Simon was based on had a partner that may have been the inspiration of Kamina yet wasn't someone like him, Since that person was greedy and selfish and wanted to keep all the glory for himself, Unlike Kamina who knew how to acknowledge a person because of his efforts instead of hoarding the honor all for himself(which is quite evidence with the Drill trap scene" where people congratulating him were told to congratulate Simon since it was his idea and effort).

It would be a safer thought if you'd think about Dragon Quarter's being TTGL's inspiration instead of the thought of TTGL might be a copy of Dragon Quarters.

Nothing new..everything is based off of something. If the people who made greek/norse/african myths actually published them, I'm pretty sure that they would be pissed at all the anime producers.

I have no doubt that Gurren Lagann is based on BoF because these things happen often.
