I know most of you are going to reply "They weren't any good in the first place" but let me put it this way: Since anime's become more popular in English speaking countries, especially the States, the way dubs and subs are being made is changing to fit this generation of anime fans. Most fas now a days prefer it to be as authentic as possible, not changing names or places, not cutting out any Japanese characters, etc. Because of that, a lot of anime companies are not only including a sub as well as a dub, but also trying to make the dub sound Japanese, by using Japanese honorifics like "san" and "chan" in the dub. I was curious, so I watched ep one of Ouran dubbed on You Tube, and I was appalled to hear "sempai" misspronounced a dozen times by the voice cast. So, my question is do you prefer this Japanese imitation or not?? I think not changing the names and everything and trying to cut out stuff as little as possible is a good thing, but I don't like the "imitation Japanese" that they're using.

Early dubbing was terrible. So terrible in fact, that people are still skeptic to watching anything dubbed even today. However, things had since gotten better, and people began to hire quality voice actors. But... things have come around full swing once again, because as the first post stated, dubs are using Japanese suffixes, and it sounds absolutely retarded. It's weird when they start shouting names with "kun" or "chan" tacked on at the end, because it isn't something we do in the English language.

That said, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying dubs are initially bad from the moment a series is chosen to be aired on American TV, or sold with the option of English dubbing... I think dubbing is a great idea for people who aren't able to read as good as other people. Not everyone wants to keep glancing up and down over the screen to see what people are shouting at each other. But it would just be better in whole if dubs didn't try to use forign words.

I like dubbed anime sometimes cause it gets a little annoying having to read the words on the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I don't see what happened in the show cause I was reading what they said.

I think, that they are getting better.
But, I do like the originals a lot more, just sounds better and it makes the characters more appealing .
So I'd still buy from Japan , But there are times where I don't want to read, or I have to do other things , and I don't understand what there staying fully so I end up missing a lot.
Then i really like dubs ;DD

Yes dubs are getting better but I don't like the idea of putting in japanese stuff when talking english because it sounds unprofessional.

They are getting better, i mean they will never achieve the quality of japanese voice actors, but if you compare the dubs of today to the ones 10-15 years ago, you'll see the diference, except 4kids dubs they have been and will ever be a steaming pile of shit, no matter what.
