The animation studio AIC has launched a teaser website for "Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari" (Saint Knight Story in an Alternate World), a project title that invokes the memory of a Tenchi Muyo! franchise spinoff in gradual development for a better part of a decade. AIC freelance creator Masaki Kajishima (Tenchi Muyo!, Dual!) began discussing his "Seikishi Monogatari" concept over seven years ago. Back then, the story would have centered on the half-brother of Tenchi Masaki, the main character of the long-running Tenchi Muyo! action comedy romance franchise. (The brothers' shared family name "Masaki" was inspired by Masaki Kajishima's own given name.) According to Kajishima, he had already conceived this half-brother when the original Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki video series was in development. At the time, Kajishima had planned to work on "Seikishi Monogatari" after Tenchi Muyo! GXP, but it has been put on hold ever since.

Kajishima had described his "Seikishi Monogatari" concept in 2001 as "a robot story set in an alternate universe, just like [Aura Battle Dunbine: The Tale of Neo Byston Well] or The Vision of Escaflowne." He had added, "But, there are not many fighting scenes in my anime, I still want to highlight the [aspects of life]. It's like a game of survival in an alternate universe. In their world, a 'magic power reactor' moves the robots, but only humans with special powers can operate them. So, people started creating robots powered by a steam reactor, but the truth is, the people who created this alternate universe are...? The universe is created as a result of experimentation and there are many like it because 'Gods' created them all."

The teaser website's meta tags explicitly list "AIC," the studio's "AIC Spirits" division, "Seikishi," "Seikishi Monogatari," and "Masaki Kajishima" as keywords. Kajishima wrote in his most recent dōjinshi for the Comic Market conventions that production on "Seikishi Monogatari" is going forward.

The December issue (on sale on November 10) of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine will confirm that Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, the Tenchi Muyo! anime spinoff that has been in development for a decade, is now in production. The magazine confirms the involvement of Masaki Kajishima, the AIC freelance co-creator of the Tenchi Muyo! and Dual! projects. The story is set in an alternate world called Geminar, where countries have fought endless wars with replicas of humanoid Seikishi weapons they found in ancient ruins. 15-year-old Kenji Masaki, the half-brother of Tenchi Muyo! protagonist Tenchi Masaki, is summoned from another world to Geminar.
