Aah Larp, how i used to love it. you cant really call that sword fighting though since that group obviously put more emphasis on the role playing factor and not the fighting, since it does differ greatly. I´ve known groups that very practically military in nature LARP, consisting of ex-military men in their 30-s and 40-s and they teenage(16-25) sons and daughters, who wouldnt be caught dead in places like that, but if it were a reenactment of the life of a stronghold, they would be the first to sign up.
But here i am, just defending my previous hobby, anyway thats not sword fighting.

I kinda do. I need a proper sword though, I don't like using the crappy training ones they have at Kung-fu. At least they allow me to learn with katanas and not those long poles or that dodgy looking sword that is kinda small.

I fence. I'm not anything special, and I don't want any of you egotistic nerds to say "Dude, I could totally kill anyone with a katana," crap. (Especially since it's not true - burn >.<) Fencing's real sword "fighting" and a sport (more a sport - the weapons aren't sharp or anything) and it's hard as any other sport. I really wish I had a picture on the computer but I don't. Just believe me; fencing's tough and sword fighting. Maybe not as cool as katana fighting, I admit, nor will it save my life if I ever needed to fight someone with swords, but when the hell would something like that ever happen?

I have about three swords at my house however the only move I would like to copy is the ability to create a air vacum from the tip the blade or by channeling my ki into my blade so that I can send it out in a wider range to effect opposition

...Yea ...because everyone still uses swords and spears to fight now a days....things like this are reall for recreation use anyhow its not like your learning to fight in a battle jesus....come on people...you learn because you took a interest in it.

No. Just no. I'm just going to go slightly out of my way, to give you some basic advice if you are actually interested in history and sword fighting, owning several swords myself.

If you actually want to learn sword fighting probably the best reasonable way to begin is to join the SCA group in your area and get involved. You could take up something like a hand and a half sword, or rapier. http://www.sca.org/ Other options are martial arts or fencing.

Actually , The SCA are probably the worst group to go to. They just kinda swing at each other and call it sword fighting. At least thats the Michigan chapter.

I actually used to be a member of a stage combat group out of Ann Arbor called The Ring Of Steel , though I never had enough time or money ( respectively, if i had time , i didnt have the money, if i had the money, i didnt have the time ) to take many classes .
My friend Tom was with them from the time he was 16 up until this year ( cant remember how old he is now) and got his instructor cert . The group has pretty much fallen apart now , due to poor management decisions though.
