I wonder how religious people who claim people choose to be transsexual will respond?

In all honesty, do you seriously 'wonder' what they will say?
I can just picture the list of 'proofs', '"sound' testimonial evidence" and other such subjectively based responses many religious people will list after reading studies like the one you linked.

Although now that you mention it, I am wondering now in the creativity involved in those responses.

Do you know how many assumptions were in that article? It "may" lead to this or that. what it talked mainly about is less testosterone present in people (the primary male sex hormone) True having less testosterone can make some people act more feminine, but it doesn't make the decision for you to be gay or transexual. And why is this not in a scientific journal? If you notice, the article never claims any of their findings as fact, and uses the word "may" and "speculate" when talking about their theories, there is no proof here, just assumptions (hypothesis)

Just because the testosterone is lower doesn't mean estrogen starts to magically appear. This just means that some people genetically care less about sex, which doesn't surprise me. This study could just as well proved that transvestites drove the same kind of car and left the Aussies to consider the ramifications of that. Lets test more than 100 people next time to actually process some data.

^ @digs: Thank you, now apply all of what you said to your belief or 'hypothesis' of homosexuality being solely about choice and we are on the right track.

for me both options(psychological/physical) are possible. that some are genetically predisposed to this doesn't really surprise me. but imo, most of the so-called transvestites are the way they are due to psychologically based preferences.

either way, it doesn't really bother me, i mean why should it, aye?

reminding myself that studies are never 100% reliable.

I'm not going to address anything other than your inability to pay attention to what you are reading.

the team reported in Biological Psychiatry.

Just putting this out there: Gender identity and sexual orientation are two different things that are discovered in two distinct times. Gender identity is usually figured out at an early age(some believe while still in the mother), before the person has learned anything about life. I probably don't have to define it, but just in case, gender identity is the sex someone considers themself to be or should be. Sexual orientation is learned much later in life, usually after puberty. Again, I shouldn't define it, but just in case, it's the gender someone feels attracted to.

Neither are made by choice, despite what people who aren't one of these say.

On top of the unwillingness to consider the possibilities of the other side being true, of both being true in different circumstances, and of both being true simultaneously in all human beings, these extreme views (all genetics or all environment) fail to realize the complexity of the human condition, which transcends our prescribed gender roles, definitions of sexuality, and other simplistic distinctions we make to order our world. Along these same lines, the extremes can be criticized for acting out of popular discourse on identity and sexuality that makes assumptions about what these things actually are.

Precisely.

Even if all of the data could be trusted, the conclusions drawn must be questioned, especially when they are released in sensationalized article format.
