Yes, but they're just really annoying fangirls. The ones that try to dress like japanese people, and think they know more Japanese than you and therefore have a right to use it however they please. Ughhh. Today, some of them even dressed up as japanese catgirl maids. Ughhhhhhh. So disgusting.

Seems like a duplicate....

On topic: There's an entire anime tribe in my school. Most of them are in the magnet program (the advanced classes) and many are taking Japanese. I'm sort of part of the group, but not really. I'm to bookish for them to handle. Most of them are shounen fans and I'm a shoujo person, so that further alienates me, but I have several steady friends within ht e group and am not unwelcome. They sit with me at lunch, at least, though that may be due to the fact that most people avoid me in my school (I'm a notorious bookworm and have a core of steel that means most people take one look and walk the other way) and I bring my lunch, so I can hold down a good-sized table for everyone. Being a bookworm at my school has its perks, though: Bookworm=part of the magnet program, magnet program =rich+teahcers' pet, and rich=teahcers' pet=a no-tollerance policy for time wasting. Not that I'm rich or a teachers' pet, but it's nice to have that sort of facade. Plus, everytime someone tries to get under my skin I treat them to a good old-fashioned glare, a few snide remarks using words not listed in their limited vocabulary (when you read books, your vocabulary grows, so obviously theirs would be relatively limited), and a few minutes of ignoring them with my face buried in a book and a bored expression. It sends most people packing.

Edit: I almost forgot to mention: At my friend's school, there was such a large population of otakus that even the non-anime fans picked up Japanese. Seriously. The wanna-be gangsters shout Japanese swear words at eachother accross the room XD

Back at school, no. People used to find my 'cartoon obsession' weird.

But College, tons of people like anime! Back in my old art course, half the class were anime fans. :3 Even one of my teachers liked it. XD

Scary thought *shudders*. Unless it comes in subtle details (a T-shirt with the Fruits Basket cat, mouse, and riceball; a Kero-chan key chain; a Hunny-sempai Usa-chan plushie) it's just downright ugly when people openly present themselves as anime fans via outfit. If you come in wearing a Naruto headband and with rubber shuriken you just end up looking an idiot and insulting the rest of the otaku population, but in little bit and pieces it looks cool and you may end up finding another fan you didn't expect.
