i searches through 5 pages of forum topics with the word honorifics and similar terms...so if this is a duplicate it justs proves that the search on crunchroll needs to be refined drastically... i have also made other topics which i searched through several pages and found nothing which were locked for being a duplicate.......it seems to me that unless what you search for almost EXACTLY matches something it doesnt show up unless you search through 50 pages.....but thats a whole other story

for me... i love honorifics...

often in anime its a major point for the personality of a character

and it usually helps you to understand the relationships between the characters

example...

1) withOUT = whats for lunch BIG BROTHER?

2) with = whats for lunch ONIICHAN

i understand that these translations are for english speakers... but if thats the case... why dont they just say "whats for lunch" when talking to someone else????

they say they translate for english speakers to sound like english and omit many things which doesnt fit into the english language... but if thats the case why dont they just ignore honorifics too instead of translating them to the english equivalent which makes sentences sound retarded?!?!

for the likes of me i cannot understand why people think BIG BROTHER sounds better than ONIICHAN... who speaks english and talks like that???

yes oniichan is japanese but if you watch alot of anime than you SHOULD KNOW AND UNDERSTAND honorifics.....

when i watch animne and i see translations like this it completely throws me off and distracts me...

OPINIONS ANYONE????

EDIT: a major point in this being DVD subtitles.... anyone who has bought anime DVD's with english subs knows what i am talking about.... and from what i have seen most people who mostly watch DVD subs hate honorifics.....my question is WHY... who speaks like that?

For the hardcore anime watchers I'm sure honorifics are memorized already but to people new to anime
(particularly to subtitles) it might confuse them a bit.

Who said a lot hate honorifics? Can you give us proof? And make it not empirically-based.

Even though I don't understand much of this, I, shall state my answer.
I don't believe many people hate this "honorofics" you called.
I can see lots of people using japanese phrases even they're not
japanese.

Don't you feel honored when somebody attached a honorific like -sama or -dono to your name?
