ok well I like to meditate at times and do ti chi (not shure if i spelled corectly) and well it helps to calm me down alot. Now that huge wave of body and short breaths nver happend to me, I might ask my mom cause she can acctually get into meditation well. But im probly certain the short breaths arnt normal. But ive gotten the wavy feeling before and i was fine after a wile.

TIP: Maby you should go for meditation classes (my mom had me do that) it can help on explaining better. Trust me internet isnat allways the best thing to lookg at to learn things like that (such as "going to the other side") haha.

PS- Ti Chi is also a good relaxing thing, some people consider it as a meditaion, and others consider it as a fighting tequnic, I use it for both but it is a good way to get some anger out.
