Bullshit. Unless if by 'needed', you mean 'needing more oil'.

Still, I don't think China increasing its military spendings is much to worry about - it's becoming a superpower, so it probably needs a military to back it up.

I don't get why they would need the money though - China's a huge place, with conscription. They could probably just Zerg Rush any opponents to death

haha. zurg rush :P

RE oil...tibet has oil.
Coincidence?

This time the oppresive Govt. in question (China) has nukes. Lots of nukes. And a big army to boot. I doubt the US will try anything too risky with Tibet like they did with Iraq

As far as the comment about why China would be ominous but not America: America has always been a military buff, and yet she hasn’t launched any imperial campaigns on anyone. China, on the other hand, has a history of trying to invade and capture territory. That was before they began to focus on their military… Also, America is very transparent and open with their military expenditures compared to China.

going a bit of topic but wtf
you blind you are saing that the usa didan/dosn't employ of imperialistc tatics on the world.
Oye is it not imperialistic or at leas arbitrary for the defenders of democraci wage war and doing so aganst the will off the majority, complitily negletim the world efort on kiotos agrementnot givem a rats ass for all the people that died on war that tey financed al the interventions on south america (colombia, panama,,haiti, pocibly venezuela in near future) and yet you say:"she hasn’t launched any imperial campaigns on anyone"

Actually, there was a point where America was pulling imperialism.

I would assume defence purposes. It's not unusual for a country to spend high GDP in the defence sector anyway.

Is not her military increase reasonable? First of all, her military budge is nothing compared to the US's. Secondly, China has faced many aggressions in the past from foreign invaders from the West and the East. She has learned her lesson, that might is needed. Also, Westerners still interfere with China's policies militarily (referring to US in Taiwan). How can China not increase her military? It's be stupid to not.

Seconded.
Imperialism: any instance of aggressive extension of authority

First, all of the New World (Americas) was acquired through imperialism by Europeans.

After,
Philippines, Panama Canal Zone, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Palau were all territories acquired during American Imperialism times, but were later returned.

Last, territories such as US Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii were all acquired through American imperialism, and still remain in US control.

Also, last but not least, they exerted their imperialism upon China and Japan, forcing them to open trade with them in the past.

The average Taiwanese fighter pilot has over 2000 hours of flight time. Why? Because he really has nothing better to do than fly around Taiwan and hope that nothing happens. So while Chinese forces vastly outnumber Taiwan's, the Taiwanese training gives them an edge (Of course, that is basically cancelled out when Chinese forces outnumber Taiwanese over 100 times). While Taiwan has a good reason to increase its military budget, China would be better off spending money on it's economy. Besides, relations between both sides of the strait have been improving recently. And how about letting rural children go to the high schools in the cities and let them graduate instead of sending them back to the fields? That would bring their families out of poverty once and for all. It's amazing how little the Chinese government does to combat poverty.

There's little chance of a nuclear war breaking out in our lifetime. Way too much to lose than to gain. Even if there is a large scale war we don't need to be too concerned. We have the largest naval force in the world, so much so that 2nd place 3rd, 4th 5th place put together still does not compare. China barely got their first aircraft carrier. Taiwan might need to be concerned but has the backing of the U.S. And the threat of another nation actually invading into american soil is almost impossible in our lifetime. As of now there's not much of a threat. The American military has bases all over the world that they (boast) their military can reach almost anywhere within 24 hours.
