I can guarantee why this happened: this is a meth addict/dealer. The thought process of someone who's overdone meth is loaded with delusion and paranoia, fairly similar to schizophrenia, and this guy probably thought the kid's obnoxious bang was either the cops or an angry customer about to bust in. This actually isn't the first time I've heard of an overmethed person using the spray-through-the-door tactic. At 22, he's had multiple drug convictions and the 19 year old was caught running out the door with $7500 in cash.

His past drug offense was "MANUF. DIST. METH. 1ST"
Check it for yourself by searching "Quentin Patrick" in South Carolina on

I'm going to dead honest.

I don't feel sad that this happened, it's just one among thousands of other deaths that occurs daily. It's also too distant for me. Yes, I feel it's a pity it happened, but nothing else.

I also disapprove of Halloween, a look in the local newspaper gives me reason enough. Kids spraying windows and walls with Ketchup and drowning the outside of the houses in toilet paper, even though they were given candy. Halloween has just become an excuse for children to be complete assholes.

That might be true where you live, but not where I live. There are actually nice kids here.

It's halloween, naturally there would be kids going around trick or treating.I really feel sad for that boy. He's only 12 and had* a bright future ahead of him and his life just ended like this? It's cruel. The boy's family and friends must be depressed now.World sure is twisted -.- May he rest in peace T___T

EDIT:I cant believe im still thinking about that incident.I can imagine what the father of that child is feeling now.Seeing his son getting shot to death in front of him, hell anyone would cry over that. His brother, seeing him get killed just like that. One incident like this can change several lives.. ):

at least they KNOW who killed his son. My freind was murdered on a bus by a basturd and they havent found out who yet. *sighs* he did have a long future ahead of him.

An ex-convict who thought he was being robbed gunned down a 12-year-old trick-or-treater, spraying nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside his home after hearing a knock on the door, police said Saturday

this is messed up. cases like that just prove that people should not be allowed to have firearms in their households. poor boy, and his family.

either way, to me this looks like this guy was blindly shooting through the door without checking who was actually standing behind it. normally, you should always check first before shooting, and not starting to baller around blindly. and isn't it so that they have to be first in your house before you're allowed to blast away?

and if he thought they were robbers, then he could have simply called the police instead of trying to solve this case on his own, and yeah, look at that, how he solved it. *thumbs up*

Well, in this situation, I think most of the blame can be put on the ex-convict; I know he was scared and all, but c'mon! On a day that you should know that people (most specifically little kids) go walking around at night knocking at random houses, you should have used common sense! And just gunning down the door without a second thought was mistake #2; I feel bad for the boy and hope that an incident like this will not happen again.

The ex-convict must have been really paranoid in order to do this... This could almost be labeled as an accident... I just hope there are less true to earth scary Halloweens like this in the future...
