What do you mean by done badly? peace over war

I mean that they all only have basics, and advanced stuff is never that advanced at all, I even know some guys who took martial arts, well more specifically karate but they are still weak and can't fight all that well.

fights are based on individuals, not styles. And usually advanced moves (when learned as a combat style) are relativly simple and effective. All that flashy stuff that is seen in movies are fake. They dont work and its not really martial arts. Real moves are very simple and effective.

Example: an advancement from a jab is simply a straight punch.the straight has more power then the jab.The jap can be used as a combination for the straight.the jab can set up the straight for a clean shot. Its simple, but advanced. And theres a lot you can do with it.If you have ever seen any one fight before, you would know real fighting is ugly and random. So matial arts trained for fighting must be ugly and random.Flashy doesnt work.

So when you say "badly" it should be a good thing when you want to fight for the street. Some advanced grappling moves tend to get a little more complex, but at the same time they usually lose thier combat effectiveness- whats simplest is usually more effective...peace over war

To tell ya the truth, flashy stuff can work if used correctly, better than the vulgar moves, and as long as you are trained well, fighting doesn't depend on the individual.

i suppose ne move can work depending on you opponent. But i go by Bruce Lee's philosophy on fighting, the simple "vulgar" stuff is what works. And training is an individual aspect of martial arts. So once again that only proves that fighting depends on the individual.Just because you are highly trained in fighting, doesnt mean some untrained thug cant get lucky when fighting you.The thug may be a highly skilled fighter.Nothing works 100% in martial arts.

And its also been proven that the flashy movie type fighting is impractical.Back flips and 360 degree jump spinning kicks and all that jazz will get you killed in a real fight. I have been taking martial arts for 11 years.I have trained in them for serveral purposes. The simple stuff is what works.Even when taking martial arts as a sport, you wont see people jumping in the air doing 360 degree jump spinning ax kicks in sparring. A simple side kick will knock them flat on thier face before they can get off the ground.Ever been kicked or punched while in mid air? Or even on one leg?You fall instantly on the ground- and there is no back flip in mid air while you are falling...thats why people dont teach that stuff in real martial arts. And people that do teach it, it's strictly used for demos to get people to join the martial art.Its all for show.Same with most board breaking done in the USA.Its nothing wrong with learning XMA (extreme martial arts- just another name for flashy moves based martial art), but just know in real fighting and sparring it will get you knocked out by the basic street fighter/martial artist. If you want to learn XMA, it will most likly be taught right with an actual martial art.(thats how i learn it ne way) peace over war

I fights it's mostly the speed, the power, the element of surpirse and the effectiveness of the technique that does the trick.
The flashy moves are often predictable and lack power and speed.
I personally use my knee or elbows (hiza geri and empi) when my opponent is to close to me. Not because they look flashy, but because they're brutal and damaging.
