Taiga's name can be transliterated into the English equivalent tiger, and tiger in Japanese is tora (虎, tora?). The first part of Ryūji's name, ryū (竜, ryū?), means dragon in Japanese, and a transliteration of dragon into Japanese is doragon (ドラゴン, doragon?). -wiki THEREFORE... The first two characters for "Taiga's" name (tora) is written in hiragana, simply because it's a Japanese word. The romaji form of Ryuuji's name is used for "dragon", which explains why it's in katakana. This explains why the title is written half in hiragana and half in katakana ~ とらドラ.
