have u noticed that each of these different dramas have different styles? Like how the jdramas tend to be wiser and the kdramas very often end in tradgey? What different features make them kind of obviously different despite the language?

Taiwan dramas seem like they are more happy and carefree.

I'm watching Moonlight Resonance, a HK drama, and it's sooo good. It's so much different than the TW dramas I've seen, because it's more realistic.

TW - most of the ones i've seen are over exaggeratted. Silly, goofy and overly corny.

HK - depends on the type, like they have modern drama and ancient drama but for the sake of this topic, I'll just point out that the modern dramas are usually family/company based with multiple love triangles and always a villain that you would extremely hate.

Mainland china - Evil to the point where it's unrealistic and makes you think the villain must be the most stubborn, idiotic and sadistic person in the world or maybe the reincarnation of the devil. Ok, I'm not a fan >< ...

KDrama - sad stories and usually end with tears. A lot of crying, incurable disease, one or more of the characters will die because of an incurable disease and there will always be a very good looking doctor somewhere.

JDrama - every episode has a meaning or message behind it. Sometimes, overly anime like - with silly characters doing extremely silly things that makes you cringe (Oscar from Hana Kimi for instance) but overall, the main characters are good.

These are obviously my take on them but you might see differently

taiwan drama - overly optimistic and as far fetched from reality as possible..but they're funny!
k-drama - (my favourite ^^) usually have the romantic and confusing love triangles...and what would a k-drama be without a death or two?
j-drama - like most people are saying...they're SHORT!! which means that u can usually watch it in one night! yay~~ as for the plot...the climax is always resolved in a positive way that leaves viewers feeling happy!
chinese dramas - the LONGEST dramas ever! 30+ episodes at least =="...and they're usually boring...more directed towards the older generations..haha

IMAO

TW

theme: gay and cute romantic family/friend relationship
Dominant Genre: Romance love stories
Artists: portrays the same roles in almost every series
Target Audience: teenagers (mass-middle class)
Comment: Tw dramas are more of an idol drama coz some of their pop. artists can't act well, but coz of good looks they put them up them in any series.---and i really don't like it---

K

theme: romantic family/friend/lover relationship
Dominant genre: love story(they also have other genres like crime, music and etc, but all still project romance at great length), heroes and heroine
Artists: they have a lot of good and versatile artists; their artists are known for their unique and wholesome personalitites..
Target audience:Teenagers and older people (average)
Comment:They are improving their drama genres, but i hope they'd try to minimize those boring scenes in their dramas...it's okay if it's long..as long as it does'nt drag. They produce the best drama cinematography.

JP

theme: goals and lessons
Dominant Genre: Love, School and Mystery..and etc
Artists: Most of their artists have superior acting skill, probably, coz of they're experienced in portraying diff. character genre. (also, imao..most of them are trained since they're still young to act)
Target audience:students and workers (middle class-rich)
Comment: I hope they'd use the camera that has been used by S.Korean dramas. Their dramas have well planned plots, but they miss to emphasize (sometimes) good cinematography.
---jp dramas doesn't emphasize intense romance--but i like it that way coz it does'nt limit the theme.

J/K/Tw dramas differ coz of audience and cultural preferences. They have also varied acting styles (may be we can trace this in their culture's diff. stage acting history).

biggest difference between twdramas, kdramas, and jdramas

hahahha it's their language--corny ok!

kidin' aside....the difference lie (for me) on...
One thing: their target audience

TDrama: mostly caters the young (teens whose sole problem revolves around love, crushes, how to confess the right way, dating and the likes)

JDrama: mostly caters the young adults (guys/girls whose problems are focused on love and their future e.g. their life after graduating from highschool/college)

KDrama: mostly caters the adults (should I say mature audience) where the characters are faced with conflicts on as love,death,friendship,profession...basically about life and death as a whole

Kdramas focus on the romantic aspect of the story line and they tend to drag it out.
Jdramas focus on the comedy aspect (at least the ones I've seen) and they're much shorter, blasting through the storyline like that.
Tdramas focus on the romantic comedy aspect, but it's more 'aww' than 'haha'. They focus on cute.
