The story was just awesome. Goes to show you, you can't have everything. That makes it sad

Take your time reading them carefully, especially part 3. You'll learn things you never knew.

I can't thank you enough. That summary totally redefined Takaki for me. His tale is far sadder than I initially thought. I feel so terrible for him. He tried so hard to recover, but even after he'd moved on, things always got in the way. Things from his past, his emotions, his differences. I would almost say there was nothing he could do about it. What's really frightening is that it made me feel a sudden similarity to him. I can sympathize with many of his experiences.

My opinion of Kanae has only gotten better. I can't help but love the girl more than before, especially knowing her final moments. I don't think I'll watch Cosmonaut the same way when I get it. There was even more imagery than I had initially thought. I suppose that's true about all the chapters though. I had already picked up on the fact that Tohno was aware of Kanae's affection for him, but it was nice to read confirmation. I'm glad to know he felt bad about it, but knew it was necessary. His rejection was probably one of the nicest things he did to a girl in the 17 years we read about. Some say he should have cut her off earlier, but I'm glad he waited until after the rocket's take-off, when she was ready to confess. It was necessary that she experience at least that moment together with him.

I suddenly don't feel any disdain for Akari anymore either. I don't particularly feel any connection with her, but I'm really glad she took the best things out of her relationship with Takaki. She didn't try to forget him, but instead treasured their memories together more than anything in the world. That's a heartwarming thought.

I pretty much agree with the things you said. After reading this,i kinda get a bittersweet feeling. The feeling that not everything has a fairy tale ending to it and things are the way they are and we're not the people to change it.The Kanae part was particularly touching, since it had a different feel to it compared to the anime.
I never imagined that Takaki was capable of the cold stare at Kanae, but i kinda like the effect.Rejected before even getting to express her own feelings must really hurt. The 'coldness' of Takaki kinda chilled me too while i was reading the author's post.Overall,i think this is actually a better version of the Cosmonaut. This just showed both Kanae and Takaki in a new light so the next time i watch this again,i'm betting i'll feel different from the first time i watched this.
“Anyone. Why can’t I get close to anyone and find even just a tiny bit of happiness?”
I very nearly got choked up on this part. His whole life was riddled with sad experiences concerning love,so i kinda understand how much he wanted to find that tiny bit of happiness. On the whole,i think the novel would probably be a great read, and it stirred a lot of feelings and thought in me.Now i just have to look out for it when it hit the stores nearby. ^_^

Puting aside the lush animation, the story was good.
