I saw someone compare Busou Renkin to Bleach somewhere in this thread. Time to say something immature.
If you think Busou Renkin can be compared to Bleach then you should probably go die... Because you would be forgetting that Busou Renkin is actually a GOOD anime.

What anime gives more of a romantic depression than the last 2 episodes of Fate / Stay Night?
This is the most depressing anime I have ever seen, maybe its cause I watched all episodes all at once but for all those who haven't seen it i recommend you stop at episode 22 and save yourself. The anime is 24 episodes long with the last 2 episodes totally and theatrically pulling an animated titanic for an ending if you have seen it you will know what I mean.
ANIME RANKED 9/10 FOR BEST ACTION-ROMANCE (just takes a few episodes to start)

Some of my personal favorites that have already been mentioned would include:
~ Earl and Fairy
~ Ayashi no Ceres
~ The Visions of Escaflowne
~ Tokyo Underground
~ Full Metal Panic!
~ Gundam Seed and Destiny
~ Code Geass
but I also must add a few that I don't think have been mentioned like:
~ Heroic Age - I thought it was kinda weird, but once you get into it it was cute.
~ Zombie-Loan - Awesome show, also kinda weird. Important to note that this show is note quite finished, but is still awesome to watch. Definitely recommended to those who like vampire knight styled shows.
~ Hatenkō Yūgi- Dazzle - pretty awesome and cute as well, but its to short. also recommended for those who like vampire knight. Also manga recommended on this one!
~ Demonbane
~ Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle - this one might be more of a fantasy romance, but its still good.
Also, I hear these shows were good but I haven't watched them.
~ The Story of Saiunkoku - possibly more fantasy romance
~ Genesis of Aquarion
~ The Familiar of Zero

Has no one even tought of EUREKA SEVEN.
Eureka and Renton are the best couple and theres awesome action scenes and mecha fights.
I Mean it's the most EPIC anime for this genre...
