that girl is pathetic. She would rather die and make her parents others around her suffer because of her selfishness? You think her mother gave birth to her just so she could die like that? Bull shit. I hope someone slaps that girl in the face a few good times. I have no respect for a stupid child like that.

Did you ever stop to think about how the parents feel watching their child suffer? Do you have any idea what it's like to watch someone you love live in agony for the rest of their life with no relief?

Hehe, yea, that must suck ass for the parents. It would suck ass to have to watch your child in agony like that. but from a 3d person view like mine, i find it funny. girl simply gave up instead of trying, shes either lazy or just doesn't care. Either way is amusing.

If the parents felt that way they wouldnt want her to get a heart transplant. I cant think of any parent alive that wouldnt want their child to try and live, always striving to live. The downsides post operation just include taking drugs that keep your body from rejecting the new heart. An occasional check up every now and then. If you dont think thats worth being with people that love you and vice versa, then you have some issues. Even old people whose loved ones passed away still strive to live with pace makers and artificial heart and respiratory systems.
Yet one little teenage girl cant? Give me a break. The girl is being selfish, and is pretty much telling her parents to watch her commit suicide, a long slow and painful one.

Furthermore, you do not know what kinds of medical advances will be made in 5,10, 20, 30 years. New methods, new science, new technology. This girls life isnt even over, not by a long shot.

Are you an idiot? Did you not read the article? The chances of her surviving the heart transplant were lower than it working. So lets send her to hospital to spend the greater chance that the rest of her days would be drugs and check ups, rather than enjoying her life with her family and leaving warm memories? You would rather put her through excrutiating agony just for a chance at life where even then its not guarenteed that she would survive? Her body could reject the transplant, then what? Think about the financial strain on the family. Think about the emotional pain the girl would go through knowing that the operation put her parents in strife. Think about how the parents feel knowing that their little girl is suffering and all that they would be able to do is to let her live out her days in peace or let her live out the rest of her days in emotional, mental and pyshical agony?

You don't give a shit about how her parents feel, or how she feels. Only yourself. You don't have children, you don't have a terminal disease with a ridiculous amount of complications that would only further aggravate you and cause you pain. So why is it so wrong that she chooses to live out her days on painkillers so that she could enjoy her life?

It's not the quantity but the quality.

Exactly, no parent would want to watch their child suffer.

Small Edit - I don't find it humorous at all. I find it sad that it all boiled down to this. If you were to actually understand that this transplant was their last resort, and that she didn't give up but decided to face her death head on with her family by her side to comfort her. Do you know how scary it is face the thought of dying? Ever been in a car crash and watch the car hit you? Trust me, it scares the shit out of you and that feeling never goes away. That girl must be going through the same thing, waiting to die. Yet she has the support of her family, so she must feel safe and she would be doing her best to try and live her life to the best of her abilities experiencing as many things as she could.

A heart or any organ transplant is not without months of rehabilitation, ridiculous amount of drugs, plenty of money to keep the treatments and also the great threat that the body rejects the organ. Not only that, the patient has to be in optimal condition for it to work, which is further emotional agony as the patient waits for the drugs to bring them to suitable operating level. It could be days, weeks or months.

Don't think that her parents did not think this and talk this over with her. If the chances of her surviving are less than that of her dying then why should the parents put their daughter through a whole multitude of agonizing trials just so she may extend her life.

Haha Im an idiot? Ok what does the article say the % is of failure? Oh right it doesnt. The chance of death can happen from any major form of surgery regardless. Unlike you, I know my facts. Fact: Heart transplants have an 80% success rate for the first year, and 75% after. The issue doctors had in the past was making sure the body did not reject the new organ. They have since then created a drug that prevents that from happening. Thats why I said, IF YOU BOTHERED TO READ, that the major con to a heart transplant is taking pills some pills for the rest of your life and the occasional checkup. BIG DEAL.

So first off you out right lie, and say that the chances of failure were greater than success, yet no where in that article does it say it. Then you call me an idiot. lol

You shouldnt call me an idiot when you assume more than you know, and dont bother reading my posts. So far all you do is disagree with me on every thread, which is just childish. You tell me to read the article, but it looks like you were the one that didnt read it.

Second, you assume to know about me. How ignorant is that. The point is, the girl is being selfish and wants to let her parents watch her die because shes given up on life. This is suicide and no matter how you look at it, she has a choice to live or to die, slowly, and might not even live till christmas. Her parents want her to live and she just doesnt care according to the report. There have been many happy and successful heart transplant patients out there, many who live strong productive and happy lives.

Judging by your response you know nothing of this.

Add: in my post i mentioned the development of new technology and progress on the medical front. Progress is being every day, and who knows what kind of procedures or discoveries will be made in the coming years. The first beating heart transplant in the UK, where the girl is at, took place recently and it was a HUGE success.
