just because you didn't like the changes FF7 made to the industry doesn't change their presence or how significant they were.

EDIT: though i do love your new avatar...

YES! Finally, I was waiting for that CG shit. It was done on a computer with shitty technology, compressed, and placed into an .ajpeg image (animated jpeg) the PS1 had the technology to display the .ajpg images and many people took advantage of this. They just played sounds in the background.

Not 3D RPG's, 3D games. Let's take a look back.. I think sometime around 1978 there was a game called maze master or some shit like that. Anyway, this game featured a 3D playing area, however it was merely a plane shifted area which the floor was the walls and the floor didn't exist. You were actually sideways. ANYWAY. Let's go waaay into the future from 1978, and to DOOM. Yes, the game that supposedly isn't 3D, however it is.

DOOM featured what many people call "the illusion" of 3D, however, the illusion of 3D is featured in many games today. So shits to them, they're retarded. ANYWAY, Final Fantasy VII is not some pedestal deserving item for it's proven by me wrong revolutions, it is in fact a shit house of shit made out of bricks made of shit, as well it is full of shit.

FYI: Toy Story was solely 3D and came out in 1996, VII came out in 1997 and has no excuse for it's horribly modeled images that were converted into .ajpeg.

One more thing.

OWNED.

This is why I hate trying to argue on the internet. Everyone ignores qualifying statements. I put three little letters in both of my statements that you seemed to glaze right over... RPG. Hell, I even capatalized them.

... i never said FF7 was the first 3D game, I said it was the first really 3D japanese style rpg.

... i never said that the CG that square used was amazing, i just said they were the first to really use CG cutscenes in a japanese rpg.

... i never said sqaure introduced these technologies, they're just the first to apply them to a traditionaly 2D japanese rpg format.

name one japanese style rpg that was 3D or had CG cutscenes before FF7

...i played doom and many other "old school" fps games back when they first came out, so i'm well aware of 3D gaming before the PS1 era (though i'm not going to get into an argument of what constitutes as "true" 3D). and i do play games made in the 70s even now. personally, i'd say ultima underworld was the first game to really impress me for the 3D-ness of a game engine, that and Descent. I still play Doom+Doom II on a regular basis now.

you named a disney animated feature film and an fps to compare it to, when all i said was FF7 was the first game to bring these things into the rpg genre. you sidestepped the rpg issue completely, so quick to start thrashing on your favorite punching bag. you could have brought up western rpgs, becuase i didn't specify japanese rpgs (as i intended to and should have), since they'd been doing the 3D thing long before japan but instead you started comparing apples to oranges. and then you boldy proclaim "owned" afterwards, without actually demonstrating anything relevant to my original statements.

jay, i don't say this shit often on the internet since we're all pretty much nerds here - but you seriously need to get a life if you have this much hatred for any game. it may not be worth all the hype fans give it, but you sound like a southern babtist preacher demonstrating how hollywood is the antichrist, and your logic is just as screwy. or better yet, you sound like jack thompson explaining how video games kill people.

Square really should remake Xenogears. I mean they rushed the game, to make a gay movie. also they need to hurry up, and make the fourth game in the chrono series.

agree on xenogears. the voice acting should be fixed and matches the characters lips haha. and well improve everything from it except the battle system attack control. leave that the same. didnt like the whole xenosaga battle control

not only that, but they should complete the second disc. you know during the first part of disc two, which has twenty to thirty minutes of plot development. during this really long scene it shows eight, or nine different places your party goes to; but, guess what my friend, all of those places it shows are places you were originally intended to be able to go to. square removed all of those places so they could make the gayest movie ever made! I'm sure you know what movie I'm talking about; but, for those who do not know, the movie is final fantasy: the spirits within.

Yeah remaking xenogears would be awesome. The voice acting was horrid from what I remember (been a while since I played it). That would actually be a pretty good candidate for a PSP remake imo.

^ I just realized that's another reason why I don't like remakes... they come out on so many different systems that I have yet to own!

Grr... FFT: the lion wars is coming out on the PSP (remake of FFT)... so that adds to my misery, especially if any good remakes would come out on the PS3... sigh.

All right, someone actually reads posts, that's a first at CR.

I looked right into the FF7 statement's you made twice, or was it three times? I chose to ignore it to show you that it's technology is old as shit. (Which brought me to DOOM)

You didn't say Japanese styled, as well I sincerely doubt it was the first 3D RPG *nods to Elder Scrolls I: The Arena*

Technically they weren't CG cutscenes, they were merely .ajpg's with sound playing in the background, which brought me to the Toy Story point. It was CG, it's animation was beautiful, and everything was rather much flawless in the CG aspect.

Just name one? Ok, I'll go to google, you know what.. Fuck it. Why do I need to even bother looking for specifically a 3D, Japanese, RPG to prove you wrong, again?

The technology for 3D was present. For quite the long time might I add, so why even bother looking for another RPG? I mean a Japanese, RPG, that is 3D.

I didn't say that Videogames caused violence you douche, in fact I'm totally against that terrible assumption. Anyway fuck you I know I'm a nerd with no life but I can give two shits less.

... and yet again fails to deliver anything relevant.

in my second (clarification) post i even mentioned ultima underworld which preceded Arena by 2 years and was probably the first 3D RPG. i said if you wanted to, you could have (since i didn't clarify) taken that angle, but didn't. only after i brought it up myself, do you start bringing up relevant counterpoints.

i already said the tecnology was irrelevant, it was mainly the presence of cutscenes. i'm not much of a computer tech guy so i don't know anything about the subtleties of the technology, but they looked enough like "CG" to me to warrant calling them that. regardless, it's mainly their cinematic impact that is relevant, that virtually all japanese style RPGs started emulating there after.

i never indicated that you beleive videogames cause violence... but the style of your logical assumptions and reasoning are on par with those who do.
