hmm disney is for kids. adults don't need good animation, just good story. But animation is a plus

Well....that sounds kinda judgmental. I won't deny that most of Disney productions are more catered towards families and children but to say it's just "for kids" would be harsh.

Even with a good storyline, it needs good animation to bring the whole movie to life. If I see an end product that doesn't show much of the "basic 12 principles in animation" and just messy timing, crappy keyframes along with horrible breakdowns, most likely the whole thing will just go down the drain.

well you don't see any blood and guts in Disney animation rt? so therefore is for kids or shall I say the light heart ones?

If I recall correctly one piece has crappy animation but alot of people like it. Also I thought dragonball was pretty crappy as well. Neither one of these anime I watch but it became very popular so Im asumming alot of people like it

Has anyone actually read (and understood) the article? Based I reactions, I can't really say yes.

I have to agree that Disney and other American animation studios definitely has better animation than most Japanese anime studio (for me the closest are Ghibli and Gainax). Compare a 1970 Donald Duck cartoon with a 1980 anime episode and it's easy to see the difference in quality.
I think he (YAS) has very high standards, if he compares his works to Disney's works.

The interview is very confusing. There are a lot of contradictions, making me think that jellybean101's theory may be true.

Japanese drawings are much better than disneys these days because the cartoons [disney] are becoming 3D dimension than the old fashion drawings like hercules and mulan. Weird guy to say this comment... Disney's drawing are greater than japanese because their cartoons are now 3Ds.

I can say Disney does have better animation, but that is because of the large sum's of money they pull in each year which is enough to rival the anime industry and take on others like Dreamworks and a host of other western animation studios. But I will not say Disney produces overall better quality animation since they mainly aim at a young audience and do not really try to say or animate anything to offend anyone or raise moral and ethical issues at an intellectual level that anime does at times (Without bursting in to song I might add.) Instead they try to keep the smoke screen known as the american dream alive by keeping things relatively dumbed down and simple. The typical happily ever after that never changes in all their endings. And there are a large amount of other reasons I will not watch Disney material which I could go on and on about.....Walt Disney being an anti-semite ,High school musical with it's unrealistic take of high school, etc etc....
But yeah Disney=Bad, Anime=Good

I'm also considering that possibility. If he did intend to say that to become controversial, then...

Well played, Mr. YAS. Well played.

I knew there was something going on in his statements.

YAS is wondering why Gundam is still alive; meanwhile, Tomino has had enough of it. The guy has made a monster.

Of course disney will have better animation, they have a bigger budget than most anime studios that produce anime if that's what he means.

Yeah, Gundam 0079 was poorly made if you consider the fact that Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the Chief Animation Director as well as the character designer, was sent to the hospital due to overwork hence the lack of consistency in the drawing.

Yasuhiko's statement didn't give me a shock. I've always held that view.

I've always liked his art, too.

Where can I find info regarding what happened behind the scenes during 0079's production? Plus info on why Tomino go into depression and what happened from the years 1979 to the point Tomino made Victory...etc

I read that Gundam manga which I guess was loosely based on what actually happened (forgot the title, all I remember was Tomino being the main character) But I'm not sure whether to take that one too seriously, heh.

I think the reason why Tomino was depressed because his works are only considered as a piece of merchandise not as piece of art. So what better way to end the series without any chance of plot continuity? Kill everyone in the show including the main character.

The manga that you are referring to is Gundam Sousei.

EDIT: I dont take the story too seriously since some scenes/event are overly exaggerated.
