Basically, i didnt know whether or not i wanted to bring this up becuz i probably wouldnt get any kind of static from anyone -- in other words answers would be candy coated -- I HATE THAT, SPEAK YOUR MIND, BE REAL -- im gettin off topic...

Thoughts on the word: (espcially in regards to rappers & rap listeners)

-nigger, nigga
-bitch & other derrogeratory terms for women
-anything else ?

Idealy i would like both sides of this arguement to be covered so SUPPORT WHY you think these words are good or bad -- honestly i predict that 99% of ppl who post will have negative views so i might have to defend the use of these words - i look forward to the challenge

NIGGER- noun
-Used as a disparaging term for a Black person: “You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a nigger” (James Baldwin)
-Used as a disparaging term for a member of any dark-skinned people.

BITCH- noun
-A woman considered to be spiteful or overbearing.
-A lewd woman.
-A man considered to be weak or contemptible

I don't like none of those words, but that could just be me, because I don't cuss, lol. I Like being creative instead, of saying Sh*t. I say Sugar Honey Ice Tea. Instead of MotherF**ker, I use Motherchucker, lol. And for A**, I use Apple Sugar Sampler, lol.

Now, for the N word I would not ever want to use it because of how it was used in slave days and stuff. No offense to anyone, but a lot of other races do not understand why black people call that each other, and why they can't. And, they need to see, we (As in African American Community), most of them use that as for endearment, another way to say family to people who are close to you, if I am right on this, lol.

I don't like the B word because I have not ever seen it use in a good term unless they are talking about a dog, other than that I don't see no good of that word.

And, I kind of agree with that quote you put up, but sometimes people take things to far, and think it's their right that they can call you names and there is no consequences. But, as long as you know what you are as a person, it should not matter what anyone says.

Personally, I have no problem with the words I am an advocate for cussing! So the words bitch........will be directed accordingly to the proper individual.......I have no problem even calling my friends a "bitch" it is sometimes used as a term of endearment for me, same as nigga! Nigga has never been offensive to me unless the wrong color uses it. I never understood why people just can't understand to just not say the word.......despite the fact that Blacks uses it among themselves...that does not mean everyone can add it to their slang dictionary!

As for are these words bad or good.......they are bad words......just because yes...I can express myself differently but I choose to use disparaging language. I often uss your commons ones
Shit
Fuck
Damn
Ass
Hoe
Motherfucker and etc.......
But these words are just words they only hold meaning through the person who interprets them not the person who speaks them.......really cuss words don't mean anything to me just another set of words used for communication!

i can't really say anything for shit, fuck, damn and ass because my tongue is repulsive and I use them regularly, but i do have a little something to say for "nigger" (please take no offense when i use it)

Black people have been ostracized for hundreds of years, they were discriminated against, and sometimes still are being treated with the wrong attitude. But now that they're considered, ARE equal to any other human being, they choose to bring out the word that was most harsh to them? And use it to indicate their race? Maybe I don't understand, but this word is being used for jokes, for humour, even white people saying it to non-black people... it's ridiculous.

Before I started listening to rap, the 'n' word was forbidden for me, i put some self-restrictions on my tongue. When I heard rappers gliding the word off their tongues, so easily, and without really meaning to insult, i took light in the word. In an argument with a black girl (who used the word frequently, directed at herslef, even), the word slipped out of my tongue, and i got the Sugar Honey Ice Tea beat out of me. I guess i deserved it.. but can some one explain that?

Kids hear offensive words that are meant for other races and use them, not even understanding what's behind them. Influence by music is very strong too. (say, in a song a person says: "you bitch ass hoe, i be up takin an AK47 and shootin' in up yo cock." I'd hate to see it actually happen :P)

Meh, swear words are unavoidable, but as a 15 year old who has seen or experienced nothing of value in life, i don't really understand the "nigger" concept.

The word "nigger" isn't as frequently used as the word "nigga" in some of the black community.

To tell you the truth, it's almost therapeutic.

Blacks have been pissed off by the word for over 400 years. If it wasn't for the word being used as a joke from black person to black person, the race would've exploded in violence against the white race.

There would have literally been a race war.

This concept fits in almost any situation. In order to cope with the anger we feel about a subject, what do we do the most?

We laugh about it.

YAY RAJA we on the same page

Honestly, as a black person idk why we use the word nigga, i questioned it at one point, got no kind of insight, so just accepted the fact that we say it

IN A NUTSHELL- as long as the word has no ill intent from who ever's mouth it comes from, i could care less if they say it....

My thought on the word(s) Nigger & nigga

1. there ultimatly is no difference to quote millions of black people "You cant say it with the 'ER' u gotta say it with the 'A', its different"
the pronounciation really is not the reason the words carry different impacts, it's the intent becuz black people use both versions refering to their own race.

2. Other races using the N word
can ONLY Black people can say it? my answer no, why, speaking from the part of Texas im from Mexicans say it to mexican & black people & its no problem. Black people call EVERY race under the sun niggas directly & indirectly, including myself as much as i try not to, Which brings me to the question WHY is it OK for black people to call white people NIGGA BUT THEY CANT say it to blacks even if its meant in the utmost respectful mannor? - reverse racism i suppose LOL ironic tho

The word "Nigger" It's self was never an actual bad word. It has always been used as a negative connotation when placed on people simply because it was a form of calling someone ignorant. But after slavery the word took on a whole other negative theme when specifically being used for a derogatory label for blacks.

I personally never use the N word in real life speaking because i feel because of the utterly negative connotation of the word and how offensive some people take it as it's probably better left unspoken not just by me but for all races.

Although I've often found is amazing that blacks can refer to each other in such a way yet if anyone of another race even utters the word they are labeled a racist and a biggot.

Yes i know the way MOST black people use it is in a friendly term with one another but I've also seen it used negatively towards each other as well.

Most of their excuses for this is "That is our word you can't use it"

My reply back would probably be along the lines of " White people gave you that word and labeled you with it" That hardly makes it "your" word you just make use of it more.

That's why I brung up the "therapuetic" point earlier.

The black people who use the word are basically coping with the anger they feel about it. The best way they feel to do it, is to say it and find humor in it.

It may seem like a strange strategy, but blacks aren't the only ones who do it.

Yes, i somewhat understand that but it's rather frustrating to see when black people just ostracize white people for using that word when their is no ill intent behind it. Or people from any race really.

It's one of those double standards that makes absolutely no sense.

It's a personal thing. Whether the intent is good or bad, just the THOUGHT of a white person saying "nigger" or "nigga" is enough to upset many blacks.

That's due to the fact that for 400 years it was degrading.

If other races saying the word is ever gonna be accepted by the black community, it's gonna take a lot more than just a couple years for it to happen, you know?

Many blacks feel that they say it enough behind our backs in a degrading way. (which is true; example: Internet)

I understand all that but regardless of those examples with holding...it's still a double standard.

Which brings me to my next point. Yes the simple though of it being used by a person of my skin color is probably infuriating to someone else of a black descent and yes it has been used negatively for a long time.

BUT I feel this is why your culture and community still hasn't risen above where you currently are today. Too many members of your community only want to bring up things from the past and not concentrate on the future and present for that matter.
If people want to stay in the past and keep the old ways and stereo types alive You can never really progress.

Like i said earlier. I myself never use the word in real life conversations. But i think holding onto such a negative stereotype and connotation for a word is only belittling your own race.

I don't really have a big problem with it either, as long as it isn't used the wrong way.

I happen to stumble upon the wrong use of it all the time on the internet though.

Not on purpose either.

Racist internet cowards are definitely on the rise.

Intraweb cowards in general are on the rise it seems. The internet gives way to introvert people who would otherwise keep their tiny mouths and opinions shut and to themselves. But on the internet They feel empowered because everyone has to notice what they say.
